I liked Touhou before it became popular

>> No.12028223

I literally did before it was popular in the west. It didn't really get that way until IN made it accessible to people of any skill.

>> No.12028226

I didn't like it even after it became popular.

Great taste

>> No.12028387

I actually only play the games, not caring about fandom and derivative material.

>> No.12028389

I only started liking Touhou when it became popular.

I knew about it since the earliest Windows games (I have a shmup fan weeaboo friend who pitched them to me), but it wasn't until I became an /a/ regular that I realized how much there is to them and the fandom surrounding them. To this day, I am only staying around for the story. (I did get better at shmups thanks to them, though. Not good, better.)

>> No.12029383

I had loads of images saved on my PC as "miscellaneous" before I even heard of Touhou. It's weird when you're looking at something you saved several years ago because boobs and you realize "whoa,,. that's Komachi!"

I'd love it if there were an archive of original comiket launches, promo materials and photos online.

Can't find anything anywhere. Not on the English net, anyway.

Good news, ZUN introduced a hipster touhou.
She's perfect for you, you will like her a lot.
But she hates being liked

I don't remember exactly how I discovered Touhou at all, but I think I was still young and thought Touhou was some strange internet phenomenon with cute girls.

Or that was for Vocaloid, I really wish I could remember.
The PC-98 games are pretty comfy to play for some reason.

A lot of people played EoSD too.

Though, I have to admit IN is pretty damn easy. I'm a new player and I'm pretty sure I'm going to 1CC IN in normal within a week.

The moment I realized I could just spam bombs was the moment I started blazing through the game.

>>12041728
Huh, I was also introduced to Touhou when I was young. I thought it was complete and utter shit and didn't touch it for a while, then when I came back to it, it was because I was addicted to the secondary material. I only started playing the games a few days ago after reading doujins/canon manga/listening to music for two years or so.

thanks for listening to my blog /jp/

I remember watching/listening to Phantasmagoria mystical expectation on Youtube. I instantly fell in love with the melody.
At the same time, perhaps because of the video, I found the precursor to doujinstyle (was it called doujinhome? doujinhouse?) and downloaded the games from there.

>> No.12053886

I got into the series pretty unacceptably late, I think. It wasn't until UNL was out that I got into touhou

I-if it salvages my e-cred though, I've played the PC98 games! Actually, Story of Eastern Wonderland has some of my favorite songs in the entire series. World of Empty Dreams is just amazing

>> No.12053912

Touhou was actually created by a Korean programmer named Jun-Suk Kim.
The game, which initially was titled as 토호 (translating to "eastern wonderland")
was stolen by a Japanese assistant to the original creator, who called himself "ZUN"
(note the resemblance to the original programmer's name) and leaked at Comiket before
the game could be released in Korea.

To silence Junsuk Kim, ZUN threatened to sue him for copyright infringements
(as Kim had little evidence that he had indeed created the game) and continued to use the
Korean programmer to create additional games for the series.
