>> No.12027222

should I upgrade to windows 7 now or is it finally time to install gentoo? my mom has windows 7 on her laptop and I don't like most of the "improved" features it has. I don't know how much of my non-free-as-in-freedom software would work with ganoo/loonix though.

Windows 7 is alright really. I bought a laptop with it just now because I'm afraid that I won't get one anymore when I actually need it.

Windows 7 isn't too different from XP. It's better than that app-based shit that 8 is built on.

>> No.12027242

Nothing will happen. There isn't some EMP dropping that will erase XP from computers. You'll just have to download plugins for games, like with the last Touhou.

when my grafix card died a couple months ago and I had to borrow my mom's laptop while my replacement was in the mail I thought windows 7 was really akward to use. the interface wasn't as simple and easy to navigate and it was harder to do even simple things like set up a lan.

Fedora is too unstable and its repos are too limited. Fedora is best if you want to do client side development. Other than that I don't recommend it.

There's only 4 worthwhile distros for general computing.

Debian if you want stability
Arch if you want unstable
OpenSUSE if you want a mix between stable and unstable
Ubuntu if you want a mix between stable and unstable

Everything has issues that it brings to the table. But I don't generally disagree with those assessments.

>>12027309
I don't know. I don't use desktop environments. It depends entirely on what file manager you use on how you navigate folders. And there's a lot of options. But probably OpenSUSE with KDE since KDE has the best filemanager called Dolphin.

It's a new requirement that janitors be normalfags now. Moot requires a transcript from a university and you need at least 3 friend references. You also have to add him on facebook.

They're more concerned with making things "mobile-friendly" and getting into the VIP lounge at the club with moot.

HAH, that's now how you spell virtual machine.

Also the point is to have a faster OS, that doesn't spend resources like a nigger spends money on crack. And to not have it spy on you, or bar you doors, it's also heavily customisable: If there's a feature you want, you can make it yourself. Also the comunity is good, if there's a feature you want, somebody probably already made it for you.
And it's free of digital handcuffs and other abritrary bullshit the OS wants to impose on you.

The only reason not to use Linux would be because you're too dumb to use it.
