what do you think the odds would be that /jp/ could make a paper touhou game if someone were to hypothetically present a completely finished program for it with dummy media, and all that would be left to was to finalize the media (art, music, dialogue)?

>> No.12017500

>>12017470
I don't get it.

You tell me that someone made all those sprites and animations for an April's fool joke?
I mean, once you got a set of sprites like that, you're already half your way to make a game. Why don't they just ask some doujin programmers to help them is beyond me.

>> No.12017571

>>12017494
Low, even if you take it for granted that you hypothetically finish the program. Games can't really be stitched together like that unless you're paying for it. People are willing to invest their time for free if they get creative control in return, and that only really happens with a true team. You've essentially already taken whatever creative liberty away already.
(and any sap can find some paper scripts for RPGmaker)

>>12017500
Poked around a bit, it's more a failed project than "made sprites, can't code." And it sure takes a good shaders/effects code guy to get that sort of thing running, that looks very cool.

>> No.12017607

>>12017571
>it's more a failed project
That changes everything then.
Still, I've just re-watched the video to make sure but from a technical point-view I'm not seeing anything difficult to do here when you ALREADY have that much stuff going around (arts, music?, effect, fleshed out battle system, story?, etc.). I mean, come on, that's almost more than 70% of the work here.

Anyway, I was mostly thinking of the fake screenshots/fund it/april's fool projects that we constantly had at some point here.
I'm not saying that making them would be easy, but come on, once you already got the visuals, system, and part of your story, I'll use your analogy and say that you could just like find some scripts for RPGmaker and make the game if you really don't find any coders.
Which I find hard to believe, being a programmer and knowing that most of us would probably like to make games out of things like that instead of using coder's art every time. That's even more true when we think of the Japanese programmers doing doujins and cute™ games all the time.

TTYD was a masterpiece.
Goddamn it do I need to unearth the Gamecube? After all those years?

>> No.12017643

>>12017607
Yeah, it definitely looks like they've got enough to do /something/ there. Could still be a lot of wholes in attacks that need animation, characters that need portraits, bugs that need to be addressed, etc. I've been on projects where everyone's just sick of it even if more work might make a (flawed) final product. Still a shame though.

>most of us would probably like to make games out of things like that instead of using coder's art every time
For sure. But I'd much rather work with an artist than just their art, even if people are hard. Picking up other people's assets (even with permission) feels cheaper somehow.

>Picking up other people's assets (even with permission) feels cheaper somehow.
Really? I was mainly thinking of the artists who "wants to see their creation alive". I mean, unless you have commercials plan, instead of just giving away free fake screenshots every time, why don't you just share a set of sprites and ask people to make something out of them? Wouldn't that improve your chance to at least get a demo in the end?

>I'd much rather work with an artist
I wish we had more artists who would want to work with us!

From a misinformed youtuber. Whatever game the guy saw was probably just borrowing assets. Looking more at the guy's site, yeah, the "project" was just the video and not the game. My mistake as well I guess, fun to see his comments about foreigners' reactions that didn't figure it out.

On the plus side... here's an asset dump from the video: http://forest.her.jp/epl4/2008/04/post_247.html#more . (previewable here: http://forest.her.jp/moricchi/dot.htm)) Now I'm almost tempted to do something with them.

>>12017689
Artists suck at followthrough just as much as everyone else haha. Plus I really don't know anyone (code or art) that wouldn't put in the effort of doing leadership and things themselves if they have a vision for a project.
