Let's have a tea and canned coffee thread.

What have you been drinking lately?
What are you planning on buying?
What kind of teapot do you use?

I recently bought some liu an gua pian and sencha. I also picked up some Boss Rainbow Mountain Blend, UCC, and Dydo Blend.

I'm in the market for a tetsubin.

I've fallen for the premade sweet tea and canned teas. The fact that most are cheaper than $2 doesn't help much. It's really relaxing to go for a drive to the nice gas station, get a tea, and then drive home while sipping on it. I consider that my hobby in the spring and summer. Additionally, drinking something like blueberry iced tea and eating a big pink cookie or a donut makes me feel cute.

Define "yellow tea."

There are a bunch of teas and blends of things that come out yellow/brown rather than red when you brew them.

Beer is often yellow, and I wouldn't consider that tea by even the loosest definition of the word "tea." But I like it.

Hello! I'm not Canadian, but I've found this in the shop and it's surprisingly nice.

I really wish they sold bottled unsweetened tea where I live. The only drink options you have is water and pop. Having bottled tea is so convenient and healthy.

Where do you live where it's not sold unsweetened? There have to be at least a few companies, right?

You could also bottle your own. It's pretty fun. Cold-brew process is perfect for this because you can let it sit for hours and hours without worrying about extracting too many tannins and having it end up bitter or overly astringent. It just turns out very pleasant and tasting like tea. If you drink it quickly it should be pretty safe.

>Where do you live where it's not sold unsweetened?
I should have been more specific. I'm able to buy it unsweetened from the Japanese grocery store, but I what I would really like is for bottled tea to be sold at gas stations, regular grocery stores, etc. I think there would be a huge market for unsweetened tea. It could be advertised as a sugar and calorie free drink, which would attract health conscious people.

Oh, I know what you mean. There is a lack of unsweetened teas that you can buy easily. The ones that are unsweetened have this weird sour taste. Tejava is the only unsweetened tea I can think of that doesn't use citric acid and that can be found in normal stores/gas stations. They basically have a monopoly over all unsweetened teas.

I've been getting lazier so I havent brewed much coffee recently. Right now I'm just using nescafe instant coffee.
If anyone else buys it, dont use water with it. It tastes better if you just add it to milk, and then you dont even need sugar since milk is just sugar water.
You take three seconds and its done.

Does anyone here know how to make decent-tasting iced coffee using the freeze dried stuff? All I have is that, a pitcher and a kettle. I've tried looking it up but I usually just get junk results and ones telling me about using french presses and all.

how terrible posting beer in the tea thread. should a put a touhou to maintain that status quohou.

>>11970797
only brew enough to enjoy in one sitting. tea continues to brew while sitting at high temps and won't be so tasty after too long. Japanese and Chinese style pots are small enough that its hard to brew too much.

if you're making iced tea for later it may be a good idea to invest in a small tub that's large enough to accommodate ice water and your infuser so you can dunk your infuser in between infusions.

freeze dried coffee will never be tasty man

I haven't used any Hario stuff but I do have a Porlex JP-30 grinder that is nice for grinding. I don't know why, but hand-grinding the beans right before you brew some coffee is so much fun.

Speaking of Porlex, they also make a tea mill. I wonder how fine enough of a powder it actually makes.

I have loads of iced mugicha and oolong every year, but it's still not as refreshing for some reason. I think the strong vegetal taste is what does it.

>>11988382
I do cold/room temperature for iced tea. I usually let it sit on the counter top for a few hours (usually more than 6 but less than 12) then I strain it and put it in the fridge. I was gifted one of these a few days ago though, so I've been just skipping the straining part until I wake up. It makes about one tall glass of iced tea (with some ice in it), so it's fun for a change. It'll soon get hot enough that I'll need more than one glass of iced tea a day however, so I'll switch back to making 2L at a time soon enough.

I boil my tea water in a kettle, but I can never seem to get it to the right temperature. When the kettle whistles, I assume it is boiling, but if I pour some water out and test the temperature, it's usually only around 160F-170F. Is this because I'm pouring the water out and it starts to cool quickly? No matter how long I leave it on the burner, it never seems to get above 170F when I test it. Could it just be that my thermometer is broken?

Nothing really bad on their part, but I did have an order of genmaicha that I wasn't thrilled with simply because it seemed like it was bought from a convenience store and then shipped to me. I'm not sure what I was expecting; it was super cheap for the quantity though so I can't really complain. I've been happy with all the other orders though, especially the fukamushi/deep steamed tea from them.

If it's your first time ordering online you might want to check out Den's Tea as well. They ship from CA, have smaller sizes and are cheaper on shipping, but sell some great tea. They do stock shincha as it comes in, but usually they stock less of a selection of that kind of tea compared to O-cha. On the flipside, Den's does seem to stock far more styles of green tea than O-cha. O-cha is mostly sencha and shincha with one or two types of hojicha and any other styles if they even carry them.
