Is Japan a bunch of Technophiles?

>> No.11853889 [DELETED]

I don't really think so.

In Japan I think they're more inclined to enjoy and create works of fiction, like anime/manga and video games, along with merchandise, both of which being tied into technology. Maybe there's a few people who like stuff like the cyberpunk or mecha genre. But I don't think many of them really care about actual technology. No more than the minority of people that do in any other developed country at least.

>> No.11853920

No. Not Japan. Japan is a bunch of traditionalists. They still have fax and still use paper for most of their organizational needs, even in big private companies. It's the tradition. They don't touch the tradition. The average household have a very old Windows 98 computer, if any computer at all. By all need, Japan is maybe 10 years behind the USA, which is 10 years behind the vast majority of civilized countries.

I don't know where you got the idea that Japan was technophile. It's kind of preposterous.

This comment touched me in the heart. I don't know why, but I winced and cringed, and even now my hands are shaking a little. It's not even a remarkable comment. I don't know /jp/.

I felt a little like I would watching a 12 years old girl with a both arms removed saying "It doesn't matter, my daddy helps me to eat" while smiling. A strange mixture of compassion, sadness, pity, self-pity for not being able to see the good part of life myself, and rage against heaven.

It's the first time a so innocuous comment affects me so much.

This whole circuitboard could be replaced by one 1/10th the size, with higher integration. The quality of the analog paths would end up better too (you can stick an IC anywhere and it will work, routing video signals around and designing a good ground plane on the other hand is a lot harder and more expensive).

tl;dr, it doesn't look modern, it looks like a 90s relic.
