I have a serious question.

Why would anyone become an idol when you're too old to work by the time you're 20? Does it pay so well that they can live the rest of their life off of funds gathered in a few years, or are they all just retarded?

You have an incorrect assumption that you have to be young in order to be an idol.

For example, some voice actresses are also idols, but in their 30s. Gravure types aren't that young either, unless they're junior idols.

Also in theory, that is if they had an ounce of talent besides sucking dix, it could be a launch pad to an acting career or some tv personality career.

>> No.11837094

I bet it'd be easy as HELL to become a pornstar if you were once an idol.

>> No.11837231

There's a lot of different types of idols. You need to look into this more. You're just thinking of neckbeard underage fap material idols.

>> No.11837336

Being an idol has helped catapult a number of careers in broadcasting. Some continue in the music business as solo artists.

And yes, the popular ones make a lot of money. Probably not enough to live on forever but absolutely enough to pay for college and live comfortably for some time.

This question assumes that people under the age of 20 are smart enough to consider the long-term ramifications of such a decision, and, in particular, consider them in the face of the possibility that they could be super cute and super popular.

>Rina Nakanishi

>In 2005, Nakanishi dropped out of high school in Ōita Prefecture in order to audition for the Japanese female pop singing group AKB48. She passed the audition and became one of the first generation members of the group as part of AKB48's "Team A" and also the unit Chocolove from AKB48. She made an appearance, along with other AKB48's members, at the 58th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen. In November 2008, she graduated from AKB48 after the final performance of Team A's 4th Stage Revival, leaving because of chronic back pain and asthma. In June 2010, she stated on her fan club official blog site that she would be returning to her hometown of Ōita to take a break and recharge.
AV idol

>The following month, she began a new career as an actress in the adult video (AV) industry, debuting for the Alice Japan company with Rico Yamaguchi AV Debut. For her AV appearances, she began using the new name Rico Yamaguchi (やまぐち りこ Yamaguchi Riko?), and she also a different birth date on her new profile (December 12, 1990). Although she only began her AV career in August 2010, the major Japanese video retailer DMM (part of the Hokuto Corporation) ranked her #1 in DVD sales for the entire year of 2010, and she ranked #5 at DMM for the first half of 2011. She released a nude photobook, Departure, and she has starred in further adult videos for Alice Japan and, in 2011, for the Soft On Demand company.

>In March 2011, Rina's younger sister made her AV debut under the name "Riku Yamaguchi" (やまぐちりく Yamaguchi Riku?) with the movie Real Young Sister's National Icon Rico AV Debut (「私のお姉ちゃんは、やまぐちりこです・・・」 あの国民的アイドルの妹 やまぐちりく AV Debut?). The two sisters appeared together in the movie The Rico Yamaguchi and Sister Riku Yamaguchi First and Last Collaboration (最初で最後の姉妹共演 やまぐちりこ やまぐちりく?), released in December 2011.

It can set you up for a decent future regardless of how your career ends up. It's like the smart people who go to college on sports scholarships, but are too crappy to play professional sports. They get a free degree for being backups and can live an easier life. There's always the off chance that they can make it to the pros as well and be millionaires too.

I think it would be interesting to have a coworker or something who was an ex-idol that nobody knows about or cares about anymore. It would be interesting to see how they act in a situation that they are treated like any other boring 20 something woman. I wonder if the Japanese have done any sort of studies/documentaries on this. I should pitch that idea to Vice, they'll probably do a 30 minute documentary on it and it will get posted all over the internet.

>> No.11839107

>>11839081
Vice Japan seems to be doing a series on "A day with" certain people, so that may be a good idea. It might be more interesting than the boring Hatsune Miku fan they featured last time.

>> No.11839131

>>11839107
I think it would be really interesting to see the daily life of a former idol turned into a generic office worker/housewife/etc. It would be interesting to see how they've adapted to a mundane lifestyle and the challenges of it and whatnot. They could also go into the whole stalker obsession thing as well and ask if anyone still does that even though they've been out of the spotlight. It would be a pretty interesting documentary that would appeal to a wide audience, it has that "weird Japan" vibe to it that the west loves, and it would answer some questions in regards to what happens to the idols who never end up being famous or never end up working in show business for the rest of their lives. There has to be hundreds of them that were minor stars at one point, but are nothing more than boring people with boring lives today. It's just like professional sports, you probably have ran into someone who played professionally at one point, but never was famous and didn't make enough money to live lavishly and now they just blend into society.

Fame, money, recognition, higher chance of marrying a celeb or a rich person, not to mention the best plastic surgeries, "beauty boosts" and such.

Yeah, it's an evil business and you quit early on, but you'll still be young to use your time to "main" another objective.

Well the truth is people become idols cause its the more easy way to join the media business.

Most of them want to become a actress or model later.

also only the front members earn good, the not so popular members don't earn anything that much special.

Idol seiyuu sing/dance or look pretty besides just providing a voice any crippled grandma could provide.

Hell, even idols can sing and dance better than talentless people, as well as having to be able to deal with being on camera basically all the time and with creepy fans. It takes skill.
