What do you have to say to people such as myself, whose personal ambitions are stymied by external obligations?

In my case, I have two aging parents and a severely disabled brother. I anticipate all three will need my personal and fiscal assistance in the near future. Thanks to my government's obsession with austerity, I doubt that I will be able to rely on state assistance to provide them with necessary care. And I have serious doubts that lower taxes and fewer regulations will allow charities to rush in to fill the gap.

topically, my advice would be that there is more to what the elderly can do in society than you may realise. consider looking into odd-jobs in areas such as education, or house-sitting, and the like. i also recommend getting in touch with extended family, not for strict charity, but cohabitation. shared living space and pooled resources reduces over-head for all (especially when all are contributing in some way). one of the best things grandparents can do is help raise the youngest generation, relieving the parental burden, allowing greater work opportunities.

This was largely my purpose for raising my question in the first place. Dialogues such as this are helpful in allowing one to accept, however reluctantly, a reality that one already "knows" of. External analysis (especially on sites such as 4chan, where anonymity provides me with the licence to speak more freely than would be productive or considered appropriate in face-to-face conversations with people I can trust) provides differing points of view: new lenses through which I can view old problems from different angles and/or under different lights.

Through this process, important connections are unobscured and taken into account. The end result is a solution that is better-tuned for my particular situation.

Read a doujin recently about Shiki Eiki becoming Yama basically through a coup with the help of Yukari and the oni because her previous boss was way too into the punishment part of the afterlife to the point that it lost its purpose of trying to actually help people. I rather liked the idea.

"Above" isn't entirely the right term as all Yama have equal judging power, but yes there is the top brass of the Ten Kings. When the jizou were enlisted to become new Yama, the Ten Kings would have made that possible.

They will know all of your reasons why you ever did anything. Your rationale is probably pretty important for what is considered moral or not, but when including that, it's assumed that there are some absolute standards.
