Now that I finished the electronic walls of XFD, I am advancing really slowly in the Rock/Pop and Metal section... ugh... guess I'll skip to Jazz and come back later, if I can. Would you recommend anything from the Rock/Pop and Metal sections, just in case?

On another topic, I made a Touhou arrangement, but /mu/ is packed with SoundCloud threads where nobody gives feedback to anyone, and no one seems to even know/be interested into Touhou. Random question here. Why the fuck does Doujincore rip into MPC? They have quite a few albums that no one else has, but they're all in MPC which maxes out at 180kbps and won't work on hardly any portable player, and to top it all off if you convert it, it sounds like shit.

I'm pretty sure he used to rip to MP3, I think he switched to MPC so people would stop streaming the MP3's off his server. He also puts some of his CD's up for lossless on ASTOST. I think his username is woshibt or something like that.

He also runs a proxy service, so he would probably not make as much money if he put everything up in lossless.

Really? I was planning on doing that... won't it at least keep the 180kbps quality?

At least with JPGs I know you can guarantee it doesn't get visibly lossier if you save it with 100% quality, although it makes the file bigger.

>At least with JPGs I know you can guarantee it doesn't get visibly lossier if you save it with 100% quality, although it makes the file bigger.
You can say the same with audio.
Converting MPC to MP3 would be like converting JPG to JPG, but using the same (or worse) quality settings as the original JPG. It's going to lose some quality.

Your example would be something like converting MPC to FLAC (or any other lossless format). It will keep the same audio quality, but the filesize will be much larger.

I agree that people who think they can hear FLAC are stupid, but MP3 is transparent at v2, which is like 190kbps. So a transcode of a 180kbps file should actually be audible.

you mean, a MPC VBR 180kbps file
sure about the transparency with mpc at those bitrates?

>> No.11824949

>>11824939
That's not exactly the case. You'll still lose quite a lot of information that way. It's the same as converting a 80 quality jpeg to a 95 quality jpeg. You're applying the lossy compression algorithm twice, so you'll lose data twice. You'll just lose less data the second time around. No idea whether it would be enough to keep the compression transparent, though.

>> No.11824953

>>11824947
MusePack is transparent at "Standard", which is what DoujinCore uses for encoding. I would bet the quality loss from transcoding to MP3 would bring it under the point of transparency.

>> No.11824955

>>11824943
Except for the fact that, even if MPC standard is transparent, transcoding from data that is just barely transparent using a lossy algorithm that was designed to keep the data just barely transparent will most likely result in a non-transparent file.

https://mega.co.nz/#!DF9QADSQ!ad2b-hKDeF80xjWK-aUif0Yn7bZS6icaQSZKE95Uc-E

You should just be able to drop them into the folder.
For the MP3's, you might just be able to replace all the ".flac" with ".mp3" in the cue files and it will work, but I don't know, I didn't download the MP3 version.

Also, if you see any errors with the tags, point them out please. I think I got all of them right, but I might have overlooked one or two.

lame v2 is still transparent to most people, I'd guess around 90-95%, even with high quality equipment. Unless you did an ABX yourself and you can really hear a difference between flac and v2, it's just bloat.

>> No.11826511

>>11826501
I don't think you understand what transparent means, and no this is literally just normal studio headphones plugged straight into my sound card. v2 is awful unless you're playing it through phone speakers or those crappy little earbuds.

I'm not one of those "GOTTA HAVE LOSSLESS, FLAC ONLY, WHERES MY TTA SUPPORT" but there is a limit. If you wanna talk about bloat, bitch about 320k. That shit serves absolutely zero benefit over v0.

I use a pair of DT770 Pro and I can hear the difference. V2 sounds unclear compared to the clarity of FLAC uploads.

>I don't think you understand what transparent means
I believe that it means a point where a certain listener can not perceive a difference between the lossy data and the lossless data. Am I wrong? Furthermore, the v2 thing isn't only my opinion, it seems to be an overall consensus over the internet (although I am unable to hear a difference, but that's beyond the point, here).
>>11826517
If have good ears and you can really hear a difference, then sure, knock yourself out. My point is that most people only THINK they can hear a difference, either because they did some random non-blind test or because they read somewhere on the internet that mp3 is lossy and "oh my god i'm losing, losing is bad right guys".

>> No.11826541

>>11826517
Also, if you don't want everything to sound awful, get a proper soundcard instead of a shitty 6.25mm to 3.5 cable, I made that mistake at first and thought buying the headphones was a mistake. Glad I was proven wrong when hearing how the lossy version TLMC sounded with the soundcard and the headphones. I personally use ASUS Xonar Essence STX.

The question of FLAC vs. MP3 should not be over the subject of sound quality, as audio quality is an inane triviality compared to more important issues.
FLAC should always be used over MP3 because FLAC is free as in freedom. The MP3 file format is a patented file format, and therefore violates your freedom: we do not and cannot fully know what MP3 may be doing as a file format, and attempting to modify it would be illegal by international law. This violates fundamental freedoms to modify programmes and files which are on our systems. To run an MP3 file format, you may need to install proprietary decoders, programmes or codecs, which should be discouraged at all costs.
FLAC is a legitimate alternative to the MP3 format, it is widely compatible with most systems and players, and if difficulty arises, one can always install free, non-proprietary programmes to play them. If you require compression, use OGG vorbis.

It stands for Variable Bitrate, the number being the level of compression.

0 has the highest target bitrate and therefore applies the minimal amount of compression to a song to remain transparent. As you go up in number the target bitrate lowers untill you start getting into ~190kbps (v2) where you start hearing artifacts if you aren't deaf. Particularly in live instruments.

welll might have spoken too soon.

Google powers activate, and what do you know, I find a link.

but for real, there was a couple week window there that I could not find shit... Drove me bonkers.

And to comment back, I care enough to the point that if I could, I would just buy the album in a heartbeat, but unfortunately, the likelihood of that is slim to none...

Unrelated but every time I see this pic it annoys me because I instinctively think "oh wow Jungle arranges of Touhou tracks" before remembering that this is not the case.

I've gotten unbelievably lazy with listening to releases recently, and I am basically downloading some circles (ALiCE'S EMOTiON, Alstroemeria etc.) just to keep my current collection up to date with almost no intention of listening to them. This is the sign of a disease of some kind.

Pic related for favourite album of the event so far. Newest UMC was nice and the DJ Technorch mix was also good.

Basically I paid 3,500 JPY deposit.

Then I needed to pay 3,210 JPY after for shipping/fees.

It isn't too bad seeing as the item is only 3,150 JPY anyway so I paid double with international shipping+fees.

And the rip currently up doesn't have a log or anything, so if your rip is better than that, might as well upload it. I'm sure a few people would appreciate it.

Some of the links are still up, mostly mega links. Almost all the mediafire links from previous events are dead though.
You can still find most albums that have been posted though, if you spend a minute googling. If one of the links is dead and you can't find a mirror, you can always request it on somewhere like doujinstyle, they'll usually find a link or reup it for you.
