Here's proof japanese kigus don't care about their gender being known. Why do a lot of kigus in the western world try to actually keep a sort of female identity over the web? I'm not referring to the trans people (who are kind of widespread in between the western kigus).

I don't get it either. The only reason I can come up with is because there seems to be more stigma associated with MtF crossdressing/crossplay in the West than there is in Japan. And it's only in some parts of the Western kig community where that seems to be common (mostly on Wyu's forum).

As for myself, I certainly don't hide the fact that I'm male. I also use an identity distinct from any character. Performers using the same identity as one of their characters is another thing that seems to be common in the Western kig community but rare in Japan (I find it rather confusing, especially when one performer has multiple characters).
