Why is there in every japanese report on something a window in a corner of the screen showing some persons reaction to what is happening? Are japanese so autistic they have to be told what emotions they should feelwhen watching TV?

Isn't it pretty much the same as canned laughter?

Humans have this really weird habit of always unconsciously trying to relate to the emotions of those around them, so adding someone you can react with is a cheap way to intensify the emotions you get out of watching the show.

So on the contrary, the more attuned you are to other people's emotions, the more you'd get out of sharing the experience with on-screen spectators. Autists, on the other hand, have emotions of their own, but have difficulty relating to the emotions of others, so this kinda thing would be completely wasted on them.

This is a pretty common question on /jp. Did anyone watch this episode? Gaijin come off the plane and they interview them. One guy comes from Hawaii to teach hula dancing. They go to the studio and film the whole class.

What would be the purpose of a board like this? If they can read the words, they can probably recognize emotions, and if they can't read, then they wouldn't be able to explain what an emotion looked like with the right words

It's kind of cute though. They always gave you something to look at. It would be a fun job to just make informational signs for children.

This is halfway true. Traditionally Japanese culture discouraged the expression of emotions, and they thought Westerners were idiots who let too much show on their faces. These days Japanese pay a lot for special classes or therapy to help them smile or express emotion for the sake of doing business with gaijin.

Holy shit, that's cute as hell.
