It can't be helped. Most places are not near the coast so they have to make due with frozen fish instead of fresh fish. Frozen fish thawed out and made into sashimi or sashimi from a fish that was still alive five minutes ago.

I'm not surprised people say 'shitsucks y u eatin raw garbage lel' when the food isn't prepared properly.

>> No.11795181

>>11793031
It confuses me why there are so little single-seat eateries in the West.
So many people would love to just go out and have a meal on their own.
Doesn't even need to be for Japanese food in particular, just ANY kind of eatery really.

I mean I'd likely do that more if there were any. I'd feel so bad taking up a 4-seater just myself. Even a 2-seater.
And very rarely do any places have single seats up at counters.
In fact, I haven't seen one personally at all, outside of a typical bar that is. (and even then I don't think you can usually eat up at the bar seats anyway)

I do remember once years ago sharing a table with people though. That was rather nice. (read:awkward as hell, but interesting)

I also can't think of any time I have been to places where you can generally just eat as much as you want and then pay, similar to the sushi boat restaurant idea where food just comes around.
A place like that would probably need to be in a pretty busy place in my area. Likely day-open only since nighttime is usually a case of To The Indian or To The Chinese to get something that is neither Indian or Chinese. Or to the chippy to get deep fried mars bars. Don't you just love Scotland? They'll cook anything.
My friends family own a take-away and she walked in on her dad deep frying pizza dough. Oh god.

So yea I've never been to a bad sushi restaurant, it all has tasted great. There's sushi fucking everywhere near where I live, like within 15 minutes 7 sushi places at least, and they're all fantastic and run by actual nips. I eat it at least once a week.

We do. A couple of my Japanese friends came over for the summer and they were surprised with how well Vancouver sushi compares. It's better than some places in Japan. The big difference is how things are prepared and served though. We eat rolls here far more often while rolls are more of a rarity in Japan. Also, you usually order a dish, eat, then order more, eat, then order a bit more. North American customs of ordering all at once then eating over time is something that has been brought into sushi restaurants here but isn't really seen in Japan as often.

Even up here in the Okanagan, where I live, you can find sushi places that rival some of the best in Vancouver. B.C has crazy good sushi.

Also race doesn't matter when making sushi, experience does.

Nobody gives a shit about other people eating alone. Everyone has to eat. Going alone to the cinema, on the other hand, that is embarrassing.

Yeah but why would any self respecting person go to the movies?

Louisianian here, can confirm that there are Japanese people that live here. Most of them live in New Orleans, however.

Late hours, you're working during most of the "social eating hours", for the most part. (little before noon till around midnight)
So if you get off work, everything's closed. If you want to eat before work sometimes, or just want to go sampling food, you're usually doing it alone because the hours you're off everyone else is either at work or asleep.
Same with bartenders.
