How can I add in hilights for my hair? Every time it comes time to add in hilights I just can't ever figure out how to make it look good. Many artists styles are really lazy with this. I have a feeling it would be easier on hair that wasn't so dark.

What's the best way to legally learn young girl anatomy? I'm practicing drawing by sketching a lot of women models but I don't want to draw women I want to draw girls but I don't know how to start finding references and I really don't want to Google it.

I'm not arrogant enough to think of myself as amazing or anything but I'm pretty happy with my progress. I've been seeking out a lot of guides, tutorials, and help from other more experienced artists, and got myself a much better tablet, which really helped out immensely. It really depends on how serious you are about it, and how often you draw. After I started drawing almost all day every day, I've been getting much faster.

I'm currently trying to make a VN. I'm starting to wonder if the pixel art I wanted to use will be taken the wrong way and be thrown into the whole 'retro shit' clump. I am trying hard to improve so as not to fall into that category.

I didn't know how to make a point and click game because every time I try to get into programming I get frustrated and upset but considering I want to be careful and in depth with the story I suppose using something like RenPy won't really make a difference in the end. Plus I could probably write a very basic inventory of sorts or something.

That's hard to predict. For me it's more important that the style is consistant and fitting. Superbrothers excells at making "bad"-pixel art look pretty. I think I've worded it shitty but you get what I mean. Just don't be lazy about it, I guess.

Yes I hope I can at least resemble some of what it was. Nice looking pixel games in general are something I want to aspire to. I don't know how to create a point and click. I tried several things but I have a lot of trouble with programming. I think I am too stupid to fully understand it. Game maker wasn't working out sadly, I managed to break my own code several times somwhow. I guess I will stick to RenPy for the time being.

Yeah RenPy uses a variation of python and pygame I think. I played with pygame before and it was very user friendly so I'm certain if I stick with renPy I'd be able to make inventory. Plus the VN aspect would mean not having to animate full characters which means I could make more interesting backgrounds and other things to keep quality.

If you are serious about the manga you should really focus on doing B&W and line art only stuff. A lot of books are like that and in a way it will help you focus your efforts on improving one aspect instead of many at once which can be overwhelming.

Your forests are freakin spooky as hell and match the style of the rest of your piece, I don't really see a problem. except for the top-middle foliage where you cut the blue background straight through the leaves. I find it a bit jarring, doesn't blend as nicely.

I'm writing a story where the lead is a fat cop who can turn invisible

and the heroine is a blind girl who can sense him

I'd like to keep the story as grounded in reality as possible because it's dystopian fiction, but I can't figure out a way to explain or lampshade the guy's ability (he's doing it with equipment and he's not the only one who has it)

This is really the only suspension of disbelief I require, but I've read for hours on optics and total invisibility for a moving object seems really fucking difficult

meh, demonstrating understanding of those sort of fundamentals is only really good in an academic context. destroying these norms are how new artstyles are developed and, unless the artist was really after a typical style, it's difficult to critique them on something like that. I'm sure when westerners first saw an anime-styled character with eyes the size of dinner plates they thought it was 'poor adherence to the fundamentals' with no sense of correct anatomy and perspective.

tl;dr it's 'experimental' (not that this word indicates the piece is good/bad).
