That's retarded. I live in an Army town and there is a huge portion of Asians married to Americans here. Of those the vast majority are Koreans. I'm sure that if I lived at a Marine base instead of an Army one it would be Japanese instead of Koreans though. A few generations ago there were tons of Vietnamese here too. I always assumed that Japan hated Korea because they replaced Japan as the quirky new Asian culture that everyone can't get enough of. Whereas Japan had some very niche things that only a few appreciate, Korea is more willing to meld their culture with western ideologies to become more accessible to the western world. While Japan snickers and berates Koreans and their culture they secretly wish they could've come up with as popular as Gangnam Style. As someone who's a big fan of Japan it's quite irritating to see how much Korean culture is dominating I'm terms of popularity. The only outlet of Asian culture that was being shown on American television NHK is gone yet there are like 3 Korean channels KBS, KMS, and Arirang that show everything from soap operas to culture shows to animation. My local Japantown has been completely overrun with Korean and Vietnamese shops (San Jose a shit!) the average Japanese person in my city is 40+ wheress there are plenty of young Korean women bouncing around all over the place. Japan is slowly sinking into irrelevance and being replaced with Korea and Samsung. I wouldn't be surprised if Moot adds a /kr/ board in the near future.

I appreciate some aspects of Korea and Korean culture. They embrace the young spirit, they want to improve and move on and don't bother getting stuck in limbo with random garbage but on the other hand their culture is incredibly homogenized. Very little room for originality or individuality (which you seem to get a lot more in Japan). In some aspects Japan is way more westernized than Korea.

Everything Korea does, Japan can make better. It's just that Korea can make it cheaper but still retain quality. That's why Samsung is taking over even though they just copy everyone else, it's also why Japanese animation studios are outsourcing to Korea/China.

Also, Kpop > Jpop. Jpop is simply too sugary sweet for my taste.
