NEXT is more or less standalone, though it makes some references to the original, but they're more or less explained if they're at all relevant aside from some of the ones like the "sisters" who run a flower shop and Nagi's dislike for one of them and so on.

The last VN I finished was Hatsusaku about a month ago. Loved the あぁ？ exchanges and many other scenes. Nijima Yuu is a good writer who seemed to have improved a lot from Natsuyume Nagisa; I'm now quite interested in Majo Koi Nikki coming out in April.

It's definitely a few levels above your average eroge, but it really isn't all that difficult to read from what I've read so far. As far as the kanji use is concerned, it doesn't really feel like it spams especially obscure kanji at all, but I'm probably not the best person to ask about that. Tlwiki says it has ~2500 unique kanji, which seems to be more than average if that's what you mean.

Well finished Kaihou Shoujo Sin, getting the true ending was a bit of a pain so I had to use a walkthrough but otherwise it was a smooth ride.
SUDA 51 sure didn't put his gloves for this game, you can see he couldn't care less about what the average eroge player think.

It's not exempt of flaws but I don't regret reading it, it was pretty different from the usual at least.

You might manage begining but then around at the half point of story it starts to pull all the remaining plot threads from Zero and continue them. So start with Zero, you can manage skipping the Genrins if you absolutely dont want to even check the novelizations but Zero shouldn't be skipped under any circumstances becasue you don't even get quick explanations from stuff leftover from there like you get for Genrin stuff.

I only played Ayame no Machi. It was... okay, but nothing worth talking about. The art was pleasant though occasionally a bit derpy.

There was also Izayoi no Fortuna, which was actually a November game but didn't get uploaded until late December. Haven't gotten around to starting it yet but the reviews on EGS seem pretty positive and it has a nice OP.

Well, I actually started translating Twinkle Crusaders in a text file, but I only got a few hundred lines in before losing interest (which is what would happen with any translation project I start because I'm a lazy bum). Besides that, Baldr Sky and Eustia really ought to get finished someday, and Himawari would be a decent translation candidate as well, or maybe Harukuru/Natsuyuru. Possibly some Maruto stuff.

The trouble with translating moege like Dracu-riot is that the majority of EOPs don't really seem to care for them. Translating is a lot of work and it's just not worth it if there's no demand.

Well, I just played through Sora no Woto: Otome no Quintet.

Dammit, while it did have a lot of pointless (but cute) fanservice, especially in the beginning, for a SnW fan like me the game provided some... well, I wouldn't call it closure per se, only in terms of the fact that there will be no more SnW in the foreseeable future, but some medicine for my heart indeed ;_;7.

In short, it was really not as bad as the screenshots made me think it was.

I don't understand why no one picked up Baldr Sky yet. It's average tier in terms of reading difficulty (not counting the german words, which can be dealt with by searching for a german or using a translator) and it'll probably make as much success as the big EOP names like Muv-Luv Alternative, Fate Stay Night, etc. All that is needed is patience and effort, which may be quite a lot, but the success will most likely pay off, which isn't true for a variety of titles (including some that are being translated right now which people are working on more because they like it rather than caring for demand).

Finished クオリアフォーダンス / Qualiaffordance and my KISS verdict: it's rubbish; it's not even poor, below par nor average.

The VN is animated, so the ero scenes are animated but lower quality than what you see in the famous version 1 of School Days. The art is average and reasonably simple to assist in keeping consistency so there isn't a shock transition between pretty non-ero art/scene to ero scene. The biggest problem is its lacking dialogue, take it from VNDB's description -" Kazuki is your typical shy boy who couldn’t turn down a request nor doubt others. However, after one summer vacation incident, he became able to see the ‘colours’ of other people’s emotions... as he became closer to the heroines, the ordinary becomes the extraordinary." The "extraordinary" part lasts all of 10 minutes and no more, so much for that: its reveal was short and its resolution was even shorter; it's lacking any sort of buildup so the reveal and resolution simply gathers a "what, is this it?" - the whole thing is resolved in 20 lines after MC mentions "I will stay and do it with you" thereof. BGM is low in count. Oh, the school festival evebt deserves a mention - it's worse than muvluv's lacross arc as the latter at least serves a purpose and tells points, even if you find it boring. The whole thing feels incomplete and inexperienced, made me gain more respect for the likes of Inre (the amateur group who did chusingra 46+1)

3/10, and it even took 12 gigs to install, 7 gigs compressed !

There were a few Higurashi references in Umineko, but you probably don't have to worry about spoilers, since as far as I remember, the only thing that could be considered a spoiler wouldn't make sense before reading Higurashi anyway. It's been quite a while since I played either one, though.

That said, I'd recommend playing Higurashi first anyway so that you understand the aforementioned references.

If you need English, the Mangagamer release is your only option anyway, and if that's the case, I hear they're retranslating it for the Steam release, so you probably want to wait for that version (the original translation had some major issues from what I've heard).

Try not to think in terms of "years" or "semesters". Some people, who self study, do more in one single day than the typical class-goer does in a week.

I was thinking, in 70~80% of the novels had something with a school, but thinking back I can't remember one, aside Majikoi, who ever had a sketch where the actual lesson happens (eg the teacher explains something), I know japs over glorify their seishun, but they spend like 8x more time actually studying than in the free times... kinda dumb.
