There's actually nothing at all that keeps supernatural/mystical elements from being used in a space setting. For example, see Star Wars, Dune, Event Horizon, etc etc.

From what I've heard (on Reddit, come on you guys), the miko-ish character and the space suit guys are from two different works. The first is a Higurashi episode to be come out Summer 2014, the second is another work coming out Winter 2014.
