I am a refugee from desuchan's /do/ board. That's not how it works unfortunately, when a Japanese company licenses a character they can only produce it for a certain amount of time. Otherwise everyone would be able to get what they want. Besides I can't speak Japanese very well and it seems like their English corespondent doesn't work there anymore because they haven't responded to english emails.

The doll threads on each board are different and that's probably due to a difference in those populating the threads.

Doll threads in toy are seemingly dominated by older grills that tend to prefer the resin bdj fantasy look. Whereas jp's doll threads are populated by little girls who prefer the sexy anime girl look and they are much better photographers.

God damnit, my fingers are in so much pain right now. I've been trying to instead a new hip joint to fix to replace an old one. It's fucking stuck on the hip peg like it's jammed and it won't pull out. Then I tried removing the knee and that somehow got jammed in mid pull so it can't be pushed back in or pull out. I've spent 2 hours continuously pulling and pushing to no avail. I still need to remove them my fingers are bleeding!

Recently ive been having these really weird conversations with my doll.

One of the best was she woke me yesterday when i fell asleep in my chair, tugging at my sleeve asking me when we're alllowed to eat, because she's hungry and i have no food in the house.

They were selling Canon's EOS M mirrorless here for a bargain price so I bought one myself for those moments when I'm not feeling like hauling a big DSLR around and to replace my broken Fuji X100. Picture quality seems very decent for the price even though it's a bit clumsy to use even with just a 430EX flash attached. Lack of viewfinder doesn't seem like a problem with doll photography at least, choosing focusing points with the touchscreen etc is pretty nice.

Not necesarly, if you buy a head with a custom (or rarely original) face-up from auctions. Hence the observation about the limited parts and clothes rising up the price; in those cases, to compensate for the price of the face up that you actually want over the head you actually want, you save from not getting the standard model ones, buying the rest of the parts separately and the total balances out a bit.
In any case, even if you're very selective, most probably you'll spend more afterwards on things like eyes, wigs, clothes et al.

Once in situ I got really nervous: there were these lowlife around and my shitty cellphone camera couldn't handle the sun. About to give up, I stumbled upon two old acquaintances who are photography enthusiasts, carrying their cameras; I took the chance and asked them to take some pictures of her, which they kindly did (I include some right now; still waiting for the rest)...

Not a gorgeous setting, I know, but it's a place where I spent and lost many years and always wished I could take a dear beauty with me there. Hadaly finally made it happen and I'm very grateful and happy for that. Next thing I'll do when I get some money might be finding a decent camera.

Have a little more side lighting. Kinda looks like she has no eyes. Side lighting at an angle will light up her eyes and face, while still keeping that darker look that you use in a lot of your photos.

Do you tan those furs yourself? I have a ton of dried but not yet tanned furs lying around from thanksgiving. Rabbits mostly.

Unfortunately, no. I do take full care of my bugs, taught by lepidopterologists, and I wanted to learn all kinds of taxidermy but never got so intimate with a mastozoologist or ornithologist who could teach me (I know no hunters or that much people around at all). I have a dried lynx fur that I wonder if still can be tanned someday; maybe I could use it as practice but I'd hate to ruin it.

What kind of wig is the best? I'm planning on making a custom trimmed straight, shoulder length wig, I'm guessing the heatproof type would be best for straightening? Unless the synthetic type is better for trimming, and there are other ways to straighten it out without heat.

Yeah, I'd also kinda want something that'd set the new photos apart from the old ones, and since I'm pretty unimaginative, new wigs, clothes and locations would be the easiest way to spice up the pictures. And going somewhere is always such a bother since it's still dark outside when I get off work and during weekends I'm busy with other things, boo.

Threads like these. Honestly, if you're willing to go the custom route like almost every cute doll is, price isn't really an issue.

If you can't afford the 1/3 dollfies with insane scalper markups on YJA, you can always get a blank body and learn to sew. It's all a question of budget. If you've got 500 bucks, buy a blank DD or SD. 300 bucks, get one of the cheaper 1/3 dolls if you don't mind the uglier joints. Less than a hundred bucks? Get the cheap 1/6 dolls instead. There's a Google doc on /toy/ with advice.

I watched Rozen Maiden when I was in college, and liked it, so I scoured the internet for swag. I came across the Pullip dolls, which led me to find the Volks SD dolls, which led me to find Dollfie Dreams. I knew I wanted a big doll but wasn't able to get one until years and years later when I got a grown-up job.

It sucked pining over these dolls for years not being able to buy any, but it was worth the wait.

A friend got a Saber some time ago, I saw it and fell in love. My girlfriend's also been into dolls for a long time, both resin ones and she had one of the earlier Dollfie Dreams too, so those two were a great resource and gave good help when I was getting mine.

I don't think dolls are that expensive as a hobby anyways - it's just as valid to get just one girl that you really like and enjoy and photograph her and get some new clothes every now and then, being a doll hobbyist doesn't necessarily mean having to buy every single new doll that comes out and owning at least 20 at any given time, even though there are a lot of people like that, too.

I just bought a sister body for my girl since I've wanted one for a long time and ran into one for sale for a decent price. Comes with a 07 head with Volks faceup, not sure yet if I'll want to keep that one too or if I'll let her go.. I'll post pictures anyways once she arrives and I'll dress her up :3

Volks has since fixed the issue. But when the DDIII bodies were first released, the shoulder joints would crack after a while due to pressure on the joint. The issue got bad enough that cool cat started selling reinforcement parts for DDIII bodies.
