I think sometime in 2008 was when I started browsing. I was on /b/ for a while and then I came to /a/ when they were spamming about the end of geass R2.

I had come to 4chan in years before that... but I couldn't actually find a way to get to the boards from the front page. There was some kind of confirmation thing where you had to click and then the boards would show on the left frame. It sure tricked me good.

The overuse/misuse of "literally" recently is a meme. A few people do it then it catches on like wildfire. I think they're pretty much doing it on purpose now and before long you will see stuff like "my sides LITERALLY reached the stratosphere and rained down swag spahgetti".

I feel pretty goddamn old when I look back at these pages.

I wasn't here at the very start, but I was at least here when /l/ was a board and /g/ was for guro. Things moved much slower, you could post something in the morning on /b/ and in the afternoon it would still be there. One of the biggest complaints was "STOP REPOSTING THINGS FROM NOT EVEN HOURS AGO"

I feel ya. I remember trolling new-/g/ with guro threads and pics for months after the switch. These days I doubt a single /g/-user even understands the connection... :(

I also remember when /l/ moved to not4chan, that was a sad day. I wonder what Saber does these days...

I might as well post a couple of memories I have

Way back in the early days of /a/, long before any sites like *booru was available, it was very difficult to find pictures in large quantities, so it was down to users to post collections. I remember there was this one guy who went under the name of Pupu who used to just post tons and tons of borderline loli content in /a/, with these large threads (for the time).

4chan also used to have a really bad habit of dying frequently, with sites like 5chan and 7chan popping up originally just to take users while the site was down for weeks at a time.

The boards also had alot of really shitty forced memes in the early days, but some really wonderful stuff did come out of it; my favorite was probably /z/, it always disappoints me that it never came back after it disappeared.

These spin-off boards were always pretty shit imho, as they mostly consisted of angry guys who was perma-banned from 4chan. Not a very productive culture, and few of them survived very long anyway. I do remember some of them actually trying to improve upon the board software though. 5chan had, among other weird features, (experimental) RSS for all boards and threads for instance, which was extremely cool at the time.
