I watch DVDs with subtitles not because I'm blind or anything but because I like to read along with the film.

When the captions describe actions and sounds like "[clears throat]" or "[BUSY TRAFFIC]" it really bothers me and I wish there was some way to turn that off.

The bigger problem is that they often shorten sentences so the captions don't match the dialogue.

Well, subs can be used when you don't play a movie with sound, so sometimes it helps to get an idea what's going on.

I don't like it either though. I was on a very long plane ride, so I decided to watch iron man three in japanese with english subs. I actually enjoyed it, somehow.
