The problem is that for a /jp/sy there's no point in talking outside of /jp/
We can talk about all we want to talk about here and we have freedom to jump in and out of discussions. 1 on 1 conversations are stressful and it's hard to find something to talk about. On /jp/ you just find the thread that interests you and you're set. It's not that easy with other people.
I guess crossboarders don't have this problem because this place isn't their entire world, and they have a multitude of interests that a lot of people also have, like video games and anime.

You pretty much have to use the catalog which I'm still not used to. It's usually the replies that catch my eye which is why I like scrolling around but you can't really do that on other fast boards.

Yeah, I do agree with that. /v/ is so terrible nowadays it's best to just avoid non-anonymous contact with anyone who admits to going there.

I still go there myself sometimes but I try not to because I just get mad at all the trolling nonsense. It is just hard to keep myself away since I was a big /v/ browser pre-2012 and I still feel attached to the board. It really is bad though.

/jp/ covers too wide an array of interests. The most common subject people will have to talk about is just shitposting or warosu happenings. Every time I meet a /jp/er on omegle, we talk about touhou for a bit even though neither of us are really into it and then we just spam funny memes or do gay ERP. I don't have a steam or skype or facebook account so I always have to turn them down when they ask me for contact details.

i'm not into idols at all. in fact, i hated idol otaku being on /jp/. i met a nice idol otaku friend though who is a real swell guy. we played a lot of games together like 700+ hours of various ones.

the biggest issue i ever had when i met people fron /jp/ is they aren't responsive. i'm really long-winded and can talk forever if i feel like it. i know how to hold a conversation though, give open replies to continue it, and not be off-putting or being too overbearing. often times i'll start a conversation to try and get some back and forth but they respond like deadfish. i mean, responses like they're talking to a homeless guy that's asking for money when i'm just chatting about totally neutral stuff.

i know a lot of /jp/ers aren't great at interpersonal things, but jesus. putting it bluntly, it really isn't worth it to continue talking to you if you don't even try. you aren't a treasure trove that people need to spend forever trying to open cause you're offering so much.

That's certainly a problem. The other ones not so much. The ewhores (notable example being the foolz crew) always make you feel like your friendship is not that important. It's like they are collectors of friends and you are just another addition to their collection. No real friendship is to be found with such people.

Anyway, making friends is really not an easy task, especially for a /jp/sie. I may create a semi-shitepost thread on this matter a bit later on.
