Good evening /jp/. I'm justing getting home from my first day of classes this semester, which included JPN101. I need to know, do you guys attempt to appear normal when in public?

I just want some reassurance that I'm not the only sane one out there, because what I witnessed today just about made my RAGE meter break.

To anyone who answers 'no', watching animu and being interested in Japan does not give you a valid excuse not to bathe, shave, and dress yourself properly when you go to a public place.

>> No.1160778

I attempt to appear normal, but it really doesn't work.

>> No.1160791

Post some details. I don't go outside, so I want to know what annoying weeaboos are like offline.

I wear a clean white shirt, trousers and a nice vest, I don't feel concerned.

I know my JPN teacher gets very annoyed by all the people that can't suppress their powerlevels. I also laugh at them because they are all weaboos and drop the class after a couple of weeks.

I've once met a fat yaoi fangirl that kept drawing horrible sasuke fan art and was learning Japanese from a dictionary in class. I promised myself I'd never be like that, so I completely avoid anything related to anime unless someone mentions to me they casually watch anime.

Bathing and not wearing animu shirts has nothing to do with being a normalfag. Learn2powerlevel supression.

>> No.1160861

I'm taking Japanese next quarter. I need a language to graduate, and Japanese seems like the logical choice. I tell myself, I'm not learning Japanese because I'm a weeaboo or watch anime or read visual novels. But then I wonder, so why AM I learning Japanese?

And I can't answer that question.

>> No.1160868

>I need to know, do you guys attempt to appear normal when in public?
I don't like to draw attention to myself, so I do put effort into appearing passable. Ideally, no one should even notice I'm there. It would be sort of hard to achieve this if I didn't bathe.

Did geico just run out of celebrities to pay for their ads ?
They just used a bottle of maple syrup or something like that...

OP here again.
>>1160798
Actually, that sounds plausible and I hope you're right. Today the prof. had everyone stand up and introduce themselves (name, birthplace, job, hobbies, etc.) - at least 75% of the class is clearly in the 'unkempt weeaboo' camp, and of those at least 90% stood up and said 'I don't have a job', and those who did worked tech support of some kind.

>> No.1160878

Do to various reasons I can't quite fit in, but I do my best to blend in with the rest of society. That means no "wai, wai, kawaii desu!" or anime shirts or whatever. Just a regular guy, clean and shaven (and sometimes even in a suit).

When I learned Japanese there were some definite oddballs in there as well. Its not nearly as bad as what I hear when I go by the classrooms today though. I swear I can smell the weeaboos when I walk around on campus (that and the tabletop gamers, but they are a different kind of weird usually. I have more respect for them anyways).

take it backwards then
stand up and ask to the lecturer loudly if this class is only going to be for fags that likes animu or will the class will be serious
something like " will this lectures will be serious or will be aimed to learn japanese cartoons"

and you will look like a hero for looking down on everybody and weaaboo guys (mostly narutards i think) will feel bad with themselves

>> No.1160937

Most of the people in my Japanese language class appear normal. We were halfway through the first (semester) class before I realised that many members the class were closet anime fans.

The class before us (ie, the class that was taking Jap 2 when we were taking 1) has all of the Inuyasha-wearers and non-bathers.

>> No.1160939

>>1160791
Wow... You completely confused a normal weeaboo with a /jp/ level Otaku/Otagei/"weeaboo". I think your normalfag status forbids you to speak with us. Your knowledge level on this subject is way too low to understand anything we could tell you. And I'm not trolling this is my actual response to your post. Hence why there is no sage.

>> No.1160948

OP once again
>>1160861
Then don't take Japanese? I have a half decent excuse, (and true) excuse myself - that I already took French through the highest level course my school offers and wanted to start a third language.
When it was my turn to stand up and announce my hobbies, job, major, etc., I watched the professors' face light up with joy when I broke the pattern and mentioned I have a clearly defined major, a job, and a history of studying foreign languages.

When I go out to my Japanese class, I go like I'm on business. Bathed and groomed. Clean, casual, smart clothes. Homework done completely and properly.

Get to the classroom, set my gear down, and look over my trouble spots. I try to ignore the fags, but at the same time try to associate with them at the school and public level, things like presidential candidates and hard to remember Canned Gs.

When they ask what kind of anime I watch, or what kind of Japanese bands I listen to, I reply with, "Oh, I don't know much about it" and reference things from what I've seen on TV. I can't really handle a conversation about bishi this, chibi that, X Japan, or Night Elf Hunter endgame strategies. It's probably because people like me are less into a trend or hobby, and more into a way of life. Eroge is my primary source of entertainment, and the music I carry are all either by big names like Elements Garden, I've Sound, Little Wing, or by doujin groups like Silver Forest. It's hard for people like myself to connect with other people at the hobby level, so I don't bother trying to connect past the school and public level. The farthest I'll go into hobbies, is probably mentioning Bioshock. I wouldn't say a thing about my anticipation for Otome Function or how I was impressed with how versatile Sakakibara Yui is.
