What kind of elitism is there from translation groups? The work required isn't a lie, and people usually make their own groups. The problem is that unlike the real world, there is no known way to keep people responsible on schedules to release and most groups lose motivation after the honeymoon phase of the project and drop.

>> No.11608867

>>11608499
Yeah, no. That so-called "elitism" is in place to prevent people with no skill whatsoever from "contributing" to a project and thus wasting the time of people with actual skills who have to then find out what he did and revert/fix it. It also just happens to be that those people without any skill in their field tend to drop out very shortly after starting work on a project.

Generally, for translation projects, anyone can join as long as they are capable of genuinely contributing to the project. It's not elitism, it's just filtering out people who would be more of a burden than a help.

>> No.11609016

Or there are some localizations that are a pain in the ass. For example, I'm reading Monobeno right now, and while it's not hard at all to understand, I certainly wouldn't want to translate it. Too many lame puns and unusual dialects that need to be preserved somehow. Nothing that a competent editor couldn't handle, but few VN translators have much in the way of English writing talent.

Not saying that's the case with I/O, just making the point that translation and editing are different skill sets and not everyone has both.

Translating porn games is seriously business, needing this many people. It's kinda stupid how major projects can be dropped so easily.

>> No.11618971

You should see some Chinese translation groups. They have up to 20 people doing translation and editing and tlc alone.

>> No.11618977

>>11618971
And still they can't shake their reputation for being shit speedsubs for some reason.

It's astounding that Tsukihime is as badly translated as it is, especially the English, given that many pairs of eyes on it.

I wish english-speakers had the same dedication as them. I get somewhat upset when I see how they have things translated in half the time we take.

It's because the languages aren't that far off, so any asshole thinks he can translate. Same with Portuguese (Brazilian) translations of American stuff, and almost all of it is universally low quality because whatever's released first gets all the attention.

>> No.11618987

>>11618982
If they shared the same alphabet as us, 90% of people could probably learn the language just by similarities.

There are quite a few projects in the Chinese community that went on the quality direction without as many people, but most of it is stalled and never to see the daylight.

So naturally the "prominent" Chinese tl groups are the ones who pump out the most content, quality or not. They're pretty much just a pool of interested people in the forums volunteering to help. It's something like a collaborative work.

The English community's translation groups usually function with a lot less, a lot more dependent on certain individuals, and arguably more dedicated individuals.

I didn't even know this game existed, and suddenly there's a translation. I think that may be the best kind of patch. It looks nice, too, so I'm satisfied.

Does anyone know if there's anyone working on/planning to translate Grisaia no Meikyuu and the sequel?

>> No.11620510

>>11619156
I read through it because I thought the character designs were cool. But it gets gay as hell towards the middle.

Also re:connect is just straight up porn. You get a little more info on the characters but its just gay sex. Except Mizuki route, which was my favorite simply because Mizuki is a cool dude and y'know there was no surprise gay sex.
