To answer the anon in the last thread asking about what makes a good kig.

Firstly is the overall quality of the costume and padding, proportion is the second most crucial thing to looking good as a kig besides the mask, with the right mask, proportion, and padding you can make it look good no matter what your body size in 99% of circumstances, (naturally its a lot harder for fatter people)

The second most important think is acting, seriously I can't stress this enough, with normal cosplay it's fine to just be yourself but with kigurumi you "are" the character.
You need to act appropriately, and for gods sake make sure you know how to walk/carry yourself !

Honestly the sheer amount of "kigs" that simply buy a mask and a cheap outfit.
(without wanting to sound pretentious) It sickens me, its such a waste, they just pop the mask on and think that makes them a "real kig."
It's more than 50% acting because padding and a mask is all well and good, but if you just walk around normally its going to look completely off, if you get a kig and costume spend at least a month doing practise acting and performances in your own home before even attempting doing anything like performing at a convention or doing full photoshoot

oh and something i forgot to mention about the acting bit, original characters need to have a personality, it might seem obvious but you'd be surprised at the amount of people who try and skip around the performance part by having original characters

I couldn't agree more, but acting does not need that amount of practice. I feel like you can just do it by observing and noticing details of how your character portrays himself/herself and just replay that.

Also, I notice that almost none of the westerners are able to act well. Some can put a really decent costume together, but I still wait for the day I can actually see someone acting properly.

If what you said was true then there wouldn't be american kigs who cant act (i mean you've got to really love a character to want to put so much money into it so you can assume they've observed the character quite a lot

There might be many who can actually act well, perhaps I just haven't seen enough videos/cams.

Some made it themselves, while others bought it from mask makers or commissioned them to make a customized one. For the padding, well, improvisation most of the time.

I don't have a list of mask makers at hand, but try googling 'goukaou' for a start.

Well I'm not actually starting from scratch, I bought a blank mask from kagaki. pic related

Im going to need to finish it, add eyes/hair, paint it etc, a shit ton of practise is in order first though because I'm worried about fucking it up due to an initial lack of experience.

the main thing I'm nervous about is cutting view /eye holes because if that goes wrong I'm completely screwed

but yeah once i actually get started on it i probably will post progress pics, since this is the only place were people seem to give actual criticism without sugar coating it with layers of "i dont want to offend you" and "its perfect already"

cutting holes might be easy, just draw over where you want the eyes to be and drill the locations, if you plan over it first, and then follow your plan there'll be no mistake.

i didn't like the nose and how the jaw shapes, but now you can't do anything about it

There's no need to post them when people here are complaining about others not being so good because it seems like you're trying to prove that these are the best in the western world and trying to make them have some kind of special achievement in their meaningless life. No one is special and we're all gonna die.
Although they actually are the best at the moment (along with @waifuku/@kaito_aru), they don't fucking need this narcisistic image attached to them, they could be surpassed in quality (which just means they are just the best at this point in time), and you're just creating this image to others by doing that.

I dont hate wyus masks, i hate the fact thats its basically the default for americans, because as i previously said, they only look good on a very specific group of people, in contrast to sigma which is the japanese default as far as i know, sigmas masks are meant to fit the average sized person, not a 6 foot plus person which is why the generally look better (that and they are a lot more careful when it comes to the eyes area of the mask)

I'm a 6 foot tall, and pretty much disagree with you in the sense that Wyu masks are somehow acceptable. The design itself pretty much sucks. If the design was acceptable, then yes, it'd fit better the average "murican" in the sense it'd give the same effect.

That's the problem with Wyu, then, it's the lack of wanting to do better. They aren't creative (most of the times they need someone else to figure out stuff for them) and they don't want you telling them to improve "becos it's not a competition!!!1111!!!".
They are focused on doing stuff, and even if their quality isn't as good as it should be, that is something that we should grant them.

If there was a way to make them do stuff (because they clearly enjoy that) and put someone else to do the planning and the thinking (someone who would be really competent at this), Wyu would be far better than it is now.

I think most of people won't get what I'm trying to say, I guess.
