I love Touhou and all too, but I can't say I like a lot of the memes very much. I actually enjoy this peace with only minimal Touhou content scattered here and there.

Well it's really the genre's fault for having such shallow backstory and personalities. Look at VN threads. Generates tons of varied discussion.

The only time there is a large amount of prolific Touhou threads it's usually centered on gameplay and the fighting games, which is not too interesting, disappointingly.

Well, yeah, that's true about Touhou, but I actually like seeing how different people interpret different abilities, which doujin artist have your favorite depiction of a character, how other view each character's personalities and stuff.

It's chock-full of things to discuss, in my opinion, but no one seems very willing to talk about them.

Because the fanbase is spread thin over the thousands of doujins available. Touhou and say, TYPE-MOON for example both have vast amounts of topics readily available, but /jp/ only needs play one or two VN's to be able to discuss the entirety of the series. Very few people here read every single Touhou doujin, and those that have are usually too busy or uninterested to discuss them.

I see where you're coming from. But generally, circles like FLIPFLOPS, Haniwa's Store, and more of the "popular" groups definitely have a large enough fanbase to warrant some discussion. I guess there really just isn't a whole lot to talk about regarding doujins other than, "Yeah, I liked it." or "No, I didn't."

However, I still think it's nice to see people come up with their own ideas and interpretations of the characters. I think it's a healthy exercise of imagination, even though you really aren't coming up with anything from scratch. Unfortunately, discussions in /jp/ only reach to the point of, "Oh yeah, she's hot." or "Oh, she's stupid."

I hate saying this, but powerlevel discussions are the only times when /jp/ can discuss the abilities and their ideas in a somewhat serious manner. If we were a bit more open and civilized about it, we could actually probably come up with interesting short stories and scenarios with the characters.
