Seems like it combined the strengths of both the sword and spear. Obviously it wasn't the best thing in the world since it was less common than both. Why is that, does anyone know? I can think that it would be slower than a sword, but other than that, what are its weaknesses compared to a spear and to a sword?

I imagine it'd be better in combat than a spear is due to a larger surface area to do damage. The main reason spears were used were to form breaks against cavalry or foot units, not in one on one battle. Naturally, a naginata wouldn't be suited for this purpose as it doesn't have a pointed tip. It has less surface area than a sword but it does give you more distance. I can't imagine it'd be better than a sword for piercing through armour.

It's like a sword but heavier and with a longer shaft. It'd have way more force than a sword when swung.

They're also pointed, but they're also curved, so while you can stab someone, it's not as good for formation pointing like spears are, as you mentioned.

It's not just a blade, but a pole too. Poles can still hit you and parry. Ignoring the fact that it's also still pretty much a sword, not a spear, so you aren't reliant on stabbing at a distance to fight with it. You can just slash in close.

The sword user would have an advantage though.

Bladed polearms were not a thing until swiss mercenaries made them big in the form of halberds. And even halberds focused on stabbing eventually and are relatively light on metal.
