So far, /x/ is scary, because those guy seems to really believe all the crap they're talking about, /tg/ is kinda fine even if you don't like tabletop games, and /b/ is mostly porn and camwhore.

This. I think /tg/ is a good example of a "topical board", and /jp/ is a good example of a "hang-out board". Both types of board are good in their own way. It's when you end up in the middle that boards end up shitty. /x/ is a good example because the last time I went there the discussions about ghosts was mixed together with the general chat and shitposting. On /jp/ they're usually pretty well segregated and it's about 90% just guys hanging out to 10% STG/denpa/whatever.

>>11475005
I was at the panel and was also wondering the same thing because any weakly cried response from /jp/ would be muffled by their blankets and body pillows. Also, the security there was power tripping so hard that only pocket-sized items were allowed, so true /jp/ wouldn't have even been able to get their equips past security, and that's assuming they worked up the courage to leave the house in the first place. I don't know what moot was expecting when he asked that.

The whole panel was predictably saturated with unsavory /b/tards, really.

Some nobody: Um, what's your favorite board?
[audience yells out boards as moot ponders]
moot: I would have to go with /jp/.
[audience goes apeshit]
moot: Because- and here is why, I said this last night and I- and I hope this becomes.. uh so yeah I think it's true, but /jp/ is like weaponized /a/.
[moot and the audience chuckle]
moot: It is like when we used to hear, 5 years ago, about terrorism and weaponized anthrax. Like, it is THAT! But on 4chan. It is like.. this.. like this militant version of /a/; and again I'm sure they're all like seething right now and I'm not a- you know I- I- believe me I'm a truNEET at heart and- and it's really paining me to be here in public right now. But, uh.. uh.. /jp/'s actually reall- a fun board, I- I've been browsing it more recently.
[moot chuckles]
moot: I'm sure they all think I'm like- you know 20 different anons right now and...
[blah blah blah]
moot: I- I don't have a favorite board- it's certainly not /q/!
[goes on about the failure that was /q/]
moot: I'm not gonna say that it's the truth, but I don't want to ruin the board. There are a few boards that are actually great because nobody used them and in fact that's the case with most boards; the larger the board, the crappier it is. So, uh.. whatever my favorite board please don't use it because then you'll ruin it. In fact, everybody should go use /jp/, it's a really great board, and..
[audience frantically cheers]
moot: It's really, just like, like one of the best boards I've ever found! It's, like, kinda like the new /b/.
[moot and the audience laugh maniacally and them some weeb nerd from /a/ asks him a question about anime while /jp/ gets raided]

This is like in the great stories, /jp/. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could /jp/ go back to the way it was when so much bad happened?

But in the end, it's only a passing thing, these shitposters. Even darkness must pass, a new day will come and it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why.

But I think, /jp/, I do understand. I know now. Otaku in those stories had lots of chances to turn back, but they didn't and they kept going because they were holding onto something. There's some good in this board, /jp/, and it's worth fighting for.

Well, it's time for you to change that mentality you have because that certainly is happening. Not everyone is like that, there are obviously people who come here and have a job and/or go to school (whether they're being forced to in order to not get kicked out or not), there are definitely a lot of people who spend their days like that.
You might think it's a waste of time, energy, money etc, but there are people who are happy with their lifestyle and their happiness and feeling comfortable/content enough to continue living is what matters. Of course there are people who are unhappy or frustrated with how their life is as of so far but they can't do anything about it because they have no other choice. If you have a mental condition or have a poor education or live in a rural area there's very little you can do. It's kind of strange how society expects everyone out of this incredibly huge amount of people to just go to school, complete it and get a job. How can you expect everyone to be successful in that way? There are so many different ways something can stop that/those things from happening. Of course there are a lot of different ways one can be successful and the true definition of it is different for everyone. Sorry, I'm just rambling on now so I'll stop.

I hope not. Its so painful knowing that there are people on this site who have ended their lives because they couldn't handle things anymore, or people who have terrible health issues and know they were going to die soon. The internet just isn't the same without them. Even if they were just some shitposter, or just lurked, it just isn't the same. No one deserves that level of genuine unhappiness and it hurts inside knowing that there are people who are feeling that horrible. Knowing that they won't be able to enjoy the new things that are coming in the future. The thought of putting everything to a sudden or gradual halt thinking that no one cares about you is horrible.
