I think that anything keeping track of chan culture either via wikis or archives was always detrimental since they significantly lowered the learning curve, but since it was inevitable anyway, ED did a good job for at least keeping to the [relative] atmosphere of what it was documenting.

However, at this point, I think documentation of everything that happened in the last decade is a good thing if it's hidden away on a small site that a select few would know how to access.
