What did we just say about the bullying? Be thankful people are willing to host for you. I don't even host, I've just noticed it when I'm in games with other people. A lot of our players and hosters aren't from the same country, so even with really good internet, it still causes lag.

Finally, I'm not sure if you can disable spectating while using SokuRoll.

I read the wiki, but I'd still prefer tips from people that are actually playing it and know what they're doing. What would you recommend to a beginner?

The guide said to play Youmu first but I really don't like the way she handles.

Don't mash buttons.
Don't try to hit people when getting up (unless using a DP)
Use bullets to force the other to graze, melee to force him to block those bullets. Bullets alone will get you nowhere. Melee alone only works for certain chars.
Don't randomly use spellcards hoping for a hit. Chain them to combos, or use them for the effect (invincibility, etc)
If you haven't learned any decent BnB's, use low cost spellcards that chain after your Dial-A.
Pick a character you feel comfortable with, stick with her. Playing random will ensure you never learn anything.

If you're playing someone way better than you, getting destroyed and not having fun, stop. Don't have a miserable experience and waste your time for the sake of etiquette or because you think it might be rude to only play a few games.
Don't be afraid to play defensively. If you're not sure if you have an opportunity to attack or not, you can back off. People are generally reckless.
If you keep doing the same thing and it keeps working, keep doing it. If it stops working, stop doing it.

In Typhoon weather it's best to try and keep your distance and graze any bullets the opponent tries to send your way. It's annoying but a lot safer than trying to land physical hits. Reisen just has the advantage of Infrared Moon giving her constant graze, which makes typhoon an excuse to just bullet spam.

Things that increase damage: counterhits, weather effects, certain cards
Things that decrease damage: certain cards, getting hit immediately after a guard crush, guts (the less health you have, the less damage you take, down to 75% at 0)

contained herein is a program for vastly enhancing the soku ai. it's good practice and can help you to learn what is and isn't safe. keep in mind that a fair deal of these ai's are pretty unforgiving(i usually lose to the reimu/remi ai's, and i've been playing on/off for years).

to use, open aimanager.exe(running as administrator may or may not help, not sure; if you get problems, try it), and select the character AI you want to load(use aimanager.png for reference). 'twill then ask you for your soku executable's location(jp version only, unfortunately; hope you know your way around).

after it boots, go to vs player, and select your character, then the character whose ai script you loaded for player 2. sometimes, you may have to do a little trial and error to get it working properly. i once had problems involving profiles; and sometimes the AI simply doesn't work(you can tell because the console window will grab your attention and tell you something about PANIC);but most of the time it works fine. if you get said PANIC problem, try a different version of that character's AI.

If you're having trouble under pressure can always use any of those hangekis you had. Watch where you use the reversal 3card though, I could you would use it when you started turtling.

i think i'm the dude who played you yesterday, who was switching up chars all the time. you're the one who can do the dial a midscreen 3.5k combos with tenshi, right?

regardless, you may be confusing hangeki and border escapes. hangeki are an actual card that look like a silvery snake; you use it when on the ground and blocking; it takes you out of blockstun instantly and immediately uses a 0 damage knockdown attack while giving you invulnerability frames. good for when you're about to be crushed or just to get out of pressure

what i was doing yesterday were border escapes. while blocking an attack, hold a directional button(on ground, applicable are 4, 1, 2, 3 and 6)and press the dash button twice; it will break you out of stun and send you in a direction according to the direction you pressed. 4 is backdash, 1 is a 7 highjump, 2 is an 8 highjump, 3 is a 9 highjump and 6 pushes you forward a bit(also known as an offensive BE; risky, because it often takes long to come out of it to attack, but this varies with character).

converse to hangeki's, border escapes can be done at any time while blocking, and either in the air or on the ground(albeit only the 6 and 4 versions in the air). using a BE eats up("crushes") 1 spirit orb, the shit you use for ranged attacks and skills, and which is eaten when you block ranged attacks or wrongblock(block a low attack high; wrongblocks often give frame disadvantage too, meaning it takes longer to recover from block). get pushed below 0 spirit, and you get guard crushed, removing an orb from use and leaving you vulnerable to attack for a while. crushed orbs automatically regenerate over time, the more you've lost, the faster they'll regenerate.

since a few people seem to have taken interest in the AI, i'll add an addendum to this:

if you're having trouble against some of the really tough ai's, two things you can do are, try playing an earlier version of the ai(you can see the date the ai was submitted), and/or try playing easier characters. not all the ai's are the same, so you can probably expect differences between the various versions.

i'll try breaking it down into grades according to which ai's i've played. keep in mind this is subject to interpretation. different playstyles, different characters, different results, etc. etc.

of note are utsuho and alice, who can maintain a solid offense, but crumble under pressure. (also applies to iku and patchouli, to an extent, but harder to get there and harder to maintain. the iku AI will BE if it's about to get crushed)

C: meiling?(i dunno, haven't played against her that much. also one of the meiling AI's is gimmick mode, so watch for that; so is one of the cirno ai's)
C+: sanae, marisa
B: yuyuko, patchouli?(holds some great combos but has some exploitable flaws), cirno, suwako, utsuho(watch out for that fffucking 3a)
B+: yukari, sakuya, komachi, suika, alice
A: aya, tenshi, reisen
S: iku, reimu, remilia

unknowns: youmu.

don't get frustrated if you can't beat the chars i ranked low. ALL the ai's are pretty tough. take it, and as said, my ranking, with a grain of salt.

GGs. Some things to watch out for:
You have a habit of always airteching at the edge of stage, so it's really easy to predict and punish. Usually only airtech if your opponent makes a mistake.
And there's no reason to run and hide during Typhoon, especially with a health advantage and playing Tenshi. 6B drills are great for it.

Thanks, Sakuya used to be my main but I've taken a liking to Reimu and Reisen recently. I'm assuming Suwako is your favorite, she's definitely your hardest character to beat. I'm actually kind of annoyed with myself for always getting caught by her level 5, but I didn't realize until now that it's unblockable, or that the hitbox still stays in an area even after the wave has already passed it.
