Is there a purely Japanese or cross language, relatively international otaku culture or 非リア充-atmosphered forum in existence where a large proportion of the userbase is actually based in Japan?

4chan, 2ch and 2chan aren't cutting it at all but I can't find anything that matches the above. At any rate it seems like people who become fluent in Japanese and makes the move end up not posting so much here which makes me wonder where they end up.

Esperanto maybe.

There was 10chan, but shitposting Finns and viral ads fucked it all up.

Wow. I think I'm going to go burn some of my otaku merchandise just to be on the safe side brb

If they have motivation to learn Japanese, they probably have motivation to live a proper life in the real world and potentially end up abandoning this culture. Of course there are always exceptions, but I doubt there are enough such cases to create a big enough userbase for satisfactory traffic. All the people that I know who learned Japanese are normalfagging it up without looking back. Some even hate their past selves.

There's also the option to stay on the internets but to go to other places to talk about things. Like shii. He posts on reddit instead.

>> No.11431854

Closest thing I can suggest would be to look for forums targeted at expats or JET English teachers. Thing is, if you're dealing with people that actually moved to and work in Japan, they're most likely going to be normals.

You're probably right. ;_;

>Some even hate their past selves.

I don't know how anyone can have such low self esteem to feel ashamed over a very common hobby here.

The trouble I find with most other Westerners in Japan is that they're not very integrated (not to the point of completely abandoning their international heritage but at least enough to fit into Japanese society to some extent) and so it's hard for me to relate to them.

There was a strange image board somewhere that had country flags and an automatic English-Japanese translator. I think the idea was that it was to bridge the gap between the Japanese and English image board communities.

I forgot its name.

4-ch is fairly slow but it has a Japanese language board, and the other boards seem to attract Japanese posters who make weird threads in broken English.

I never get why so few Japanese posters come to /jp/. It would be cool to just shoot the shit and compare notes, assuming it was allowed by the powers that be.

Maybe in like, old /jp/. I don't think they'd mesh well with the all the irony that dominates the board right now. Also the culture barrier has always been pretty clear. It's the same thing with Russian chans when compared to English/Japanese ones. Completely different atmosphere and attitudes. It's interesting though, that based on when the region's chan culture was established, there is a number of jokes that are imported and integrated in their own fashion - often losing their original context because of aforementioned differences.

Analogy: If I were a Japanese person interested in British things, for example, I would want an English based forum where I can talk about these things, but frankly a forum filled with nothing British people would be awful. 2ch and 2chan suffer from the same issue.

There’s quite a few Japanese posters on /int/. They usually just shitpost about Koreans though, using Google Translate. Normally followed by a not-this-shit-again reaction from the other countries, a Japanese poster stepping in in Japanese telling them to stop it which then results in a lot of Japanese back-and-forth Korean-calling.

There is no Japanese equivalent of /jp/. Well there is (Futaba), but you can't post there without a Japanese IP and no proxies I try ever work.

I'd like to post in Japanese here (I enjoyed the Kansai-ben thread) but there aren't a lot of threads for it.

There isn't really otaku anymore to speak of in Japan.

Ever since it became a trend it just pushed the original otaku away, there are some still on the more obscure boards on 2ch but they post sparingly.

I think the reality is that most of them are just far more engrossed in their hobbies than caring about having a 'community' to talk to others. My Japanese otaku friends started their own projects, some are trying to make games. Anime at present disgusts them so they are watching old Toku series, one of them moved out into the suburbs from working in Akiba and just spends his days alone travelling to Osaka and building Future GPX models
