Japan has succeeded in Tokyo bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games.
New problem has occurred here.
It's trying to wipe away the otaku culture from Tokyo Akihabara.
Manga, anime, game, figure, cosplay, maid cafe. Everything.
The government is going to shame the Japanese Otaku culture.
To Olympic athletes, government do not want to be looking at the Akihabara.
It is expected that legislation related to otaku culture to the next six years also increase.
Japan would lose the important thing at the same time as the holding of the Olympic Games.

Stop being pedophile for 1 year.

Fuck off.

>> No.11417253

Maybe the label will finally depart from being an ironically cool or novel "geek chic" affiliation.

>> No.11417271

That will never happen, the government always talks bad about that stuff, but they'll never take action for real, they'll lose a lot of money.

epic!

Guys, please let the thread die.

Katsuhiro Otomo foresaw this 30 years ago.

>ironically cool or novel "geek chic" affiliation

I was under the impression that this is only the western view of otaku culture; the Japanese themselves don't buy into the BS post-modernist irony.

Akihabara sucks. Have any of you actually even been there? There's very little "otaku" shit in plain sight. You have to know where to look.

All the serious advertisements and gigantic displays are mostly for children's toys and games, and gundam. There's a fundamental difference between "otaku" and just mainstream Japanese media culture.

Foreigners eat that shit up anyway.

>> No.11417513

/jp/ doesn't understand Akihabara yet.

Sad day.

I've been to Akihabara and it was a lot of fun!

Niwaka might qualify in the latter category. There seems to be the sense that there is a group that's "true" and one that isn't. I don't live in Japan so I can't say. All I know is that the "otaku" label has become more and more neutral, and in some cases, even positive to suggest passion or edgy fringe-culture associations.

>Japanese themselves don't buy into the BS post-modernist irony.
I wouldn't say that so quickly. A lot of anime, manga, and games are heavy on pastiche, ironic self-deprecation, and self-reference. The denpa aesthetic in particular is keenly self-aware and very tongue-in-cheek.

It was fucking everywhere, dude. Go into a store, go upstairs or downstairs, bam, "otaku shit." And that's only if you're not (why aren't you) heading into any of the side streets.

This. We can finally go underground, like it always should have been. Fuck the normies and their shounen vanilla shit.

Sounds more like you're the one who hasn't been there... You couldn't walk three meters without running into a shop that was openly selling figs, dvds, and all kinds of other goods with anisongs playing in the background. Hell, there was a fuckhuge Madoka billboard right after I exited the station when I was there.

Visiting Akihabara in 2013 is like going to ADTRW after 2005.
