An observation:
Ghosts in the movies and comics n' shit are usually portrayed to have the injuries and clothes and everything from the last moment they were alive, ie: guy who died while bathing still has the bathrobe as a ghost or a dude who got decapitated has a loose ghost head with him as he goes around haunting.

Maybe she was hungry when she died, thus making her ghost be hungry forever.

If you mean pretas/gaki, which are sometimes called "hungry ghosts" in English, these are the spirits of sinners and the hunger is a form of punishment for their greed in life.
