I don't understand why people felt this game was too hard. It's a long fucking game for sure (took be about 70 hours when I first played it in 1999).

Many people find the gears battles tough and hard to balance. The last dungeon before you face the final boss is also pretty stupid.

In order to make him weaker, you must at first attempt combat with like four sub bosses.

The platforming with the gears if retarded as hell, I don't think anyone will disagree with that. Doen't belong in a JRPG.

I can understand having some issues with a couple of the gear fights. If I remember correctly Balthazar stops selling you parts near the end of the sand cave sequence, which made Calamity hard for the people that don't buy upgrades asap. Also there was that 5 in a row boss fight where it boiled down to how fast you killed off the Sword Knight and whether or not the Aegis Knight reduced your armor.

The main problem with platforming was that the game would not let you jump if it started loading a random encounter. Babel's offscreen jump was pretty dumb though.
