I hope that's the case. Maybe he just happened to be into anime that time and wanted to put everything into the game. The dude's known for doing anything he likes, though I still wish he's back more putting historical, myth or classic work references in the next game instead of taking influence and references from today's anime.

I'm still mad at the Mallet thingy, though. It's quite relevant part which is likely a blatant rip-off. I hope it didn't get anymore relevance in the future.

Well, I wouldn't say the Mallet is exactly a rip-off. I mean, Kyubey is far from the first being to rip people off when it comes to wishes. Really, I'd say Kyubey is more of a bad genie, and the Mallet is more of a monkey's paw for the sake of an analogy.

I don't understand why everyone is calling the DDC characters rip-offs. Most of them are based on some kind of mythological creature or figure like almost every other Touhou that has been introduced so far. That's what ZUN has been doing to the characters since the beginning.
