True story

Game play yes, story no. Torment is practically a real novel.

Torment barely has a story, it just has a lot of dialogues with some of them having actual wits at times.
It basically impresses people who never read shit in their life.

man that game was overrated as shit. the gameplay was pretty much the worst thing ever and the story was all over the place. the mystery aspect was ruined because all of the important plot points are explained to you by npcs. the themes of guilt and punishment were underdevloped. the symbolism of different incarnations representing different roleplaying approaches was completely missed. pretty much anything clever the game could have had going was thrown out the window in favor of setting specific garbage like racial alignment and belief as magic.

I have no respect for anyone who thinks planescape is well written or the best anything but waste of a good idea.

Have you even played the game? Or did you just ADD click through all the text? It's no nukige.

The story is a hell of a lot better than Baldur's Gate. That's generic as hell, oh gosh it's the Bhaal child! Baldur's Gate's main story is practically shounen tournament manga.

I read it carefully, even enjoyed the lore.
I'll repeat my point, the game barely has a story and only impress people who have never read shit in their life, which is bad since the gameplay itself was just shit.

The story of Baldur's Gate 2 was generic yeah but well paced and integrated with its gameplay

>>11360894
I don't know about that man I think it was integrated well enough. Allowing the story to be told through dialogue instead of details while maintaining the symbolism of some characters and the ending is full of strong literary themes, revealing the authors thoughts on life and all that. It's no great tale but it's better than most other games' story.

Ever17 -the out of infinity-

Was the best VN when I read it over 5 years ago, still is the best VN. You will never experience the same feeling again as you did when you first read Ever17.

No. Playing the same route 4 times in a row to deepen your feelings and make a convoluted plot seem inspired is not the greatest VN ever made.

Clannad

Fate/Stay Night

Those are the only 2 possible candidates for Best VN of All-Time®

>Implying Clannad and Fate didn't have a lot of sameshit and boringshit.
I thought that making the player the character 'Blink Winkel' was a good use of the VN medium in Ever17.

I thought HF was a great climactic ending to Fate, but there's a lot of crappy shit before getting there, and it's all hyped fights and pseudo-deep explanations for magic and organizations that never affect the story. It was pretty tedious with the retarded antagonists. (Gilgamesh mainly) I think the VNs with slow or repetitive buildup and then a change from that normalcy have the most impact, like Refrain, Muv-Luv Alternative, Symphonic Rain's Al Fine and Da Capo routes.

Overall, I find it kind of hard to pick a favorite, because I value the climactic and emotional parts of a VN over the active overall experience.
