Bread goes off faster in the fridge. In the freezer it's fine, but most starchy foods should be kept in a dry area around room temperature.

http://www.boston.com/news/science/articles/2007/12/31/does_bread_go_stale_faster_when_kept_in_the_fridge_or_when_stored_at_room_temperature/

>The thing is that when bread goes stale, it doesn't so much go stale via chemical reactions as many foods do, but rather via something physical that happens to starch. Starch tends to crystallize at cool temperatures, and this process, sometimes called "retrogradation," happens about six times faster at refrigerator temperatures than at room temperature. Loss of water also speeds up this process, so you want to keep bread in a container that stops moisture from escaping.

Really? Every time I leave bread out in room temperature it gets moldy in about a week. In the fridge it takes about 2 weeks.

>> No.11322907

>>11322901
It develops sub-mold faster, which is mold that hasn't grown to visible size yet (because of the lack of heat) but it's still there.

You know what, fuck you and your fridge meme. I tried keeping bread in the cupboard twice, and both times it got moldy within 3 days.

In the fridge I can keep bread for a week without any worries. Sure, it's not as fresh, but at least I don't have to worry about eating mold.

Although, I do agree that ketchup doesn't belong in the fridge.

>There are several ways to avoid retrogradation. One is to keep the bread at room temperature. This increases the odds of molds growing

Yeah, I'd rather eat slightly stale bread than this shit.

Enjoy your mold, faggots.

Bread only keeps well in the cupboard if it's loaded with preservatives, kept in a sealed bag, and it's not super humid out.

Also get a bread bin. Keeping it loose in the cupboard isn't a good idea because air.

But I want people to experience my pain. I once ate both moldy bread and rotten canned corn because I couldn't afford groceries. I was sick for a week puking out my guts and got prescribed anti-biotics before ending up in the ER because I was having a bad reaction to them. I've been having constant anxiety attacks ever since (~2 years) in which I feel like I'm either having a heart attack or suffocating.

At least, I hope they're just anxiety attacks. I don't have health insurance to get myself checked out.
