Well since the story/gameplay mechanic revolves around weapons, Sakuya is a human that has a weapon (knives) so she fits that requirement.
Youmu would've worked too but she just appeared in TD and ZUN probably wanted to switch things up.

The reason I think Sanae isn't playable is because she uses a gohei as a weapon. Reimu already does that, and she takes priority obviously.

It will probably change once the rest of the plot is revealed, but so far it simply seems like random stuff not connected to the previous games is happening and all bosses are just new random characters who just happen to be there when you run into them. The only connection to a previous game so far is Sekibanki's profile and even that is just "Hey, she was actually there all along but didn't do anything". I don't like that kind of stuff in Touhou.

That's the exact reason why I haven't played anything beyond PCB. I want to 1cc at least Hard since Lunatic is the standard difficulty now, but I always fuck up towards the end.

Aside from that, I play easier games in MAME like DoDonPachi and RF2. Both of which don't seem easy at all, and holy shit it hurts knowing that the RF series is supposedly a baby's first shmup. Quickshotting stuff is pretty satisfying though, dying is soul crushing as fuck knowing that it's an easy game. Worst part is, you only get three lives throughout the entire game, no extends at all. At least it gives you a lot of bombs.

Pretty much every single person I've talked with has 1cced at least one game on Lunatic. Frustrates me to no end when I hear of somebody playing one run a week and they manage to 1cc Lunatic or 2-ALL a CAVE game.

I get even more upset when I remember how long it took my slowbrain syndrome ass to reach Phase 1 in Jet. I love how other people were able to reach it in maybe three or four runs, but I took almost a month to hit it with heavy bomb abuse and cheesing with Slave.

I highly doubt they're actually Touhou players. They probably only slap in a few credits of Lunatic and say "fucking impossible shit I give up." Lunatic isn't even that hard, people just overestimate it and have an irrational fear of playing higher difficulties.

Normal and Hard players aren't that far off from the Lunatic players. The huge skill difference comes from playing on Lunatic casually and attempting to score, far above going for a measly Lunatic 1cc. Of course you still need to clear for your score to be uploaded to royalflare or arcadia, so learning how to survive effortlessly should be the first thing you learn. But what I don't understand is the people that have hundreds of hours logged and haven't even bothered to play for score, a few UFO players are quite backwards about this, they hint at survival being much more difficult than scoring. I disagree.
