It's neither, but you really should watch a couple videos about the basics before diving in. You can learn how to play well in a day or two, once you get used to the controls. Other people bullying you is something you can deal with by just using the mute function and moving on.

Yes. Honestly I would have never picked the game up if I didn't have friend to teach me when I started 6+ years ago. There's just a shitload of stuff to learn (all the items, heroes, skills) and then you need to learn all the exceptions on why certain items/skills work a certain way against another skill/item even though it makes absolutely zero sense. Then there's all the ridiculously esoteric mechanics that were kept in the game even though they were originally just WC3 engine bugs.

If you're a competitive person by nature, it's a very fun game, though, and getting better is an amazing feeling. You'll be able to play the game and learn after reading a guide or two, but you won't know all the basics until hundreds and hundreds of games.

ixdl-o is awful. I've been at the top of the ladder, and the average skill level is worse than matchmaking. Even the cl games are awful, and I'd rather not listen to everybody flaming with their huge egos.

ixdl-i is dead and is largely the same pool as ixdl-o, just without the completely awful players. Again, MM is of comparative skill level, if not higher than most players. Sure there are some really good players, but they only play a few games a day and I don't want to wait so long for them to sign a game.

MM has been broken recently I guess though.
