not really hidden but kind of unbelievable by most of the readers and viewers and also because most people i think thought it as just a brother and sister love until the ending or last book? even japanese were surprised at the ending i hear. So when you look at it from the beginning the whole series seems really dark in a way, they both are in huge denial of incest, and if you think about they will have to deal with it for the rest of their lives.
