The v1-version of the tool just crashes, v2 produces random looking filenames and unusable files.
The files from v3 have plausible filenames, but just opening them doesn't produce any legible text.
I tried reading it as unicode and SHIFT-JIS, but the only recognizable word is the header ("CatScene")

do you need any other tools to open .cst-files?

It was not a question initially; he's not philosophically wondering about what causes him to be shaken by the events taking place, but rather he's just stating that the feeling he gets from all this really sucks. There's no indication that the reason for this is "Benio's foolish efforts"; it might as well be the realization of the tragic truth that hurts him, or anything else about this situation. His heart is also not quivering 'faintly', regardless of how poetic that may sound. While the explicit 'so much' is also a bit over the top, 揺さぶられる implies a significant shaking.

But more than any of the actual errors in the translation, the tone just doesn't match. At all. It was a simple statement, and he turned it into fucking poetry. If the protagonist was a poet, the author would've written it more eloquently. But he's a normal guy, so he doesn't describe things as 'quivering faintly' and 'foolish efforts'. I'd say that's even more of a problem than getting parts of the sentence wrong, since the whole feeling the writing evokes (you know, the whole point of storytelling) changes completely.

I was keeping them at first, but after watching the finished work it felt awkward. I tried ignoring them on the remaining pages and everything flowed more naturally.

The baseline is, if he is stubbornly keeping them, he either still doesn't get the hang of translating, even after all those releases; or he doesn't grasp the languages well enough to manipulate the sentences and make them flow naturally.

I'm not saying he's a shitty translator, but definitely not someone I'd trust games I like with.

That's pretty much exactly how moogy feels about it, and Ixrec has translated several things moogy considers masterpieces, and shows no signs of actually wanting to improve his japanese or english skills, hence their "feud".

Punctuation isn't so strict in Japanese, which seems to be one thing Ixrec won't grasp, but the fact that he's apparently even adding them where they aren't in the original script? That's the weirdest thing I've heard a VN translator do.

In fact, I can't get the image of Moogy being the bitchy girl the protagonist thaws out over the course of the game, and Ixrec being the yandere that made her that way, out of my mind.

What exactly are these games? I know for a fact that MLA is one of them, and I guess the liarsoft titles enter that list too. Anything else?

Being pseudonymous is better suited so you can be contacted for if there’s something wrong with a patch for instance, plus translating a game requires the involvement of more than one person that have to coordinate efforts and ask for others to join in and such. Also, some guarantee of quality on group members.
