When my friends come over we usually play Melty Blood and PoFV. I considered myself decent in Melty Blood and would easily beat my friends. I switched over to Cadenza about four months ago and noticed the AI's skill increased, but shrugged it off and didn't slog though Arcade mode. I gave copies to a couple friends and now I'm getting my ass handed to me. /jp/ how do I get better? I never sat down and learned all the little nuances like the special block, reducing damage, and when to best use heat mode.

Help?

(My friend uses Akiha, and her jabs are way to fast to beat using my old favorite characters. I was able to put on the pressure and get a couple wins with Aoko, should I try getting better with her or is there a better anti-Akiha character)

Same way you get good in any fighting game?Play lots against other people, find the characters that suit YOU most, rather than those which are best against specific matchups, pick two of them and research the fuck out of them, and spend a lot of time in practice mode.

Before Cadenza I played Nero and Ciel. I enjoy straight forward offensive characters with a couple long ranges moves tossed in for cheap shots.

My main problem fighting my friend all the quick jabs and three~four hit combos he's able to pull off....

Most videos on youtube are actually "split". Like, in videos from Tougeki, each different fight is in a single video, unlike videos on nico, so it's more practical if you only want videos of a certain character.

Also, メルブラ + name of the character in Japanese will give you the best results on youtube. That or メルブラ　＋ name of the person you want to see playing.

In other news, I can't wait for SBO videos in about... a week.

So you're basically saying you have little-to-no 2D fighter experience. In that case I'd say try Shiki and Ciel since they're the simplest. Aoko will get you killed because you don't know traps (though I play a mean rushdown Aoko without using traps toooooo much).

Ren if you want to mixup/spam overheads without having to actually think about it.
