Do you understand how words have the capacity to hurt others? You don't need to be so hostile.

I hate how k-on is so often dismissed as mindless moe anime by morons who have never watched it.

Look at Azusa, who is stuck between her senpais and the girls of her own year. Her purpose in the show is clearly so that we can observe the principle members of HTT from an objective outsider perspective -- such as the season 2 episode wherein the girls watch fireworks and have shaved ice. By using Asuza as a lens, the audience comes to learn that music isn't about having the most technically proficient artists or the coolest equipment, it's about having fun. That being in a band isn't just about making noise. This is to say that how you personally feel about something is the only relevant platform from which you can judge or make any kind of statement about anything.

We see this more obviously in Yui's naive character. When she says "fun things are fun", she means to eliminate pretension and emphasize the immediate effect outside objects have on her. That the only truly important and relevant question is "am I having fun?". In another episode, Azusa feels that she isn't 'herself' anymore and is starting to resemble the rest of the cast members. Yui later responds that she's making an issue out of nothing by judging her situation according to how she thinks she 'ought' to be instead of letting go and enjoying herself. At the heart of K-on is a thesis on what is truly important, hence a show about girls growing up.

What I'm trying to say is that although moe anime is attractive principally because it's cute, it doesn't mean that its content isn't any worse than anything else out there. Most action oriented anime that make some attempt at depth usually look ridiculous and its themes seem out of place. Here, k-on depth is subtle and genuine.
