Hey there /jp/

Long story short, I'm going to Japan for the second time in two weeks from now. However, last time I went I lived in Fukuoka (actually, in a small town south from that) for two months, while this time I'll be living it up in an Akihabara guest house for three weeks.

What I want to know from you are a couple of things. First of all, do the stores close at 6-7 even in the big cities, or do they have longer working hours? Will I have to give up on my idea of late night doujin shopping?
Also, how safe is to cruise around town after it goes dark? I'm sure the yakuza stories are exagerated, but I just want to be sure anyone other than drunken salarymen and thugs would be around after a certain time.
Lastly, where do I go? Any places you've personally been to in Akihabara or Akiba you want to suggest? Any typology of place? Also suggestions for what other Tokyo areas would be interesting to visit would be appreciated, considering I'm mostly looking for game stores and arcades.

they have a lot of theme nights where they'll play game music, anime music, vocaloid music, or idol music... things like that.
Also they have a lot of doujin artist pass play, so if you're into that sort of thing it's great.

I do not know, but I reckon a walking cane or something like a staff with a hard end would be more effective in fending aggressors off. On the other hand, if Shiki Tohno went around Japan carrying a switchblade I doubt there's a penalization for that.

I walked around Shibuya all the time around 2am-3am when I was there.

It was eerily empty, even Shibuya crossing.

Only thing I'd watch out for are those black Africans/Nigerians that would probably mug you and rape your asshole. Yakuza problems are nonexistent.

I live in some kind of village in Germany and I rarely go outside so I didn't even know how dangerous the outside world was...
