Danmaku does spirit damage, which is located in the little girls heart. Shots to arms are uneffective.

if you look closely while playing, you'll see that it's actually located in the girl's uterus. they are immune to all but uterine danmaku damage.

The games use an isometric view. The girls are flying in a "standing" position, and the danmaku is limited to a 2D plane parallel to the ground. The only place they can be hit on is the part of their bodies that intersects with the danmaku plane, most probably the waist.

Hit boxes are sensors and shots are laser pointers. It's the most dangerous game sans murder.
