I can't into heavy bulky headphones, even with padding. Lightweight ones that clamp down on your ears are bad too.

Sound cards are irrelevant because any modern cpu can do the work a sound card does. The only time you ever need a sound card is if your computer is lacking enough ports for a 5.1 or 7.1 system (which is still totally stupid and no reason to get a sound card).
