Alright guys, since you all seem to know what you're talking about, explain to me the pants-on-head retarded leg design choices I see in a lot of Japanese media.

I mean, of course, this shit. Look at this. This is a mild example, but I think it conveys the idea well enough:

>Hips/Thighs bending inward
>Knees practically touching
>Calves bent at ridiculous angles outward
>Ankles usually flayed out to compensate
>Feet facing FORWARD, even though they should be angled too

Does this look natural? Personally, I don't think so. Rather, I think this indicates some kind of physiological disorder. In my opinion, it doesn't look cute, and it certainly doesn't look sexy; it looks like the subject in question needs to go get an x-ray.

And the worst part is, I see it in concept art all the time around these boards. And every time I see it, I'm perplexed. Why can't Japanese-styled artists draw normal-looking legs?

Don't think I'm just generally ragging on Japanese media, either. I love their video games, and I'll occasionally sit down to read manga/watch anime. I just want to know why this is common.

Because it's a cartoon, you dolt. In cartoons, the whole body conveys emotion. Such as in the old Warner Bros. cartoons, people's eyes would fly out of their head when they saw a hot girl.

Stop trying to apply meat world physics to 2D animation. Fuckin' nerd.

That's how real Japanese schoolgirls actually stand.

Does it look natural? Nope. Do Japanese girls bend their legs that way anyway in order to look cute? Yep.

It hurts to stand that way.

Maybe it's just inbreeding.

If it looks cute / endearing it doesn't really matter whether it's a natural pose or not

Anon, something you must realize is that these are cartoons. Cartoons! Not serious depictions of human beings. They are greatly simplified drawings for the sake of speed.

Even freaking Berserk cuts some corners if you pay attention.

Unless you want me to complain how utterly ridiculous, ugly and cheap today's western cartoons are?

Okay, that's fair.
Thanks for helping me to understand, everybody. Your input is appreciated.

I know a girl who stands like that but she's knock-kneed and her hips are kind of messed up. It's adorable.
