I wish I was a food Otaku, I feel left out when people talk about their favourite food. I was raised on chips. I can't even go to Japan, because they'll look down on me for not trying their food. They wouldn't understand I don't like ANYTHING that isn't chips (or Kiwis), not just their food.

Today I made myself some stir-fry with bean sprouts, mushrooms, shallots, spring onions, Chinese leaves and pak choi. Oh and I had a BBQ spicy Mexican bean burger with cheese and some cider to wash it down. It was nice to eat while browsing /jp/ on a nice day.

Nah, I ingest the odd other thing (usually a pepperami or something) and I'm fine with drinks. I have very fragile bones though. That's not fault though, I like milk, but my Mom wouldn't let drink milk because it was for tea, not to be consumed as it is.

All the caramel I've made has included butter. I assumed toffee was just the same stuff cooked to a higher temperature. I assumed taffy was similar to caramel without the brown sugar and just pulled.

Candy terms tend to varry wildly for whatever reason, especially between the US and UK.

Toffee is used quite freely, but it has to be made with butter and caramel to be legally marketed as toffee. And candy caramel is different from caramel; caramel means sugar heated enough for it to caramelize, resulting in a brown liquid called caramel.

But yeah, sweets don't tend to be different or important enough to be categorized very specifically, even when sweets like liquorice, toffee and winegums differ a great deal in taste and texture depending on how and with what amounts exactly it was made with.
