well, a reverse google search gave back warabimochi.

>> No.11001841

Warabimochi is a jelly-like confection
made from bracken starch and covered
or dipped in kinako (sweet toasted soybean flour).

i thought it was raw sugar, its really tasty and not as sweet as regular refined(bleached) sugar.

It's kinako + sugar.
The one in OP looks like dark sugar was added.
Without sugar it's quite bland and light in color, although the flavor is still there.

We have a similar dessert here in Bosnia

More than a few japanese sweets taste exactly like raw sugar. I don't know why they even bother.

I can use it as a makeshift fleshlight yeah?

Presentation. Since the japanese lacked proper spices and food until 50 years ago, their idea of cuisine is quite stunted to say the least.

If you want food that looks similar but is a rainbow of flavors, try mexican or chinese.

Was I the only one who thought this was some kind of prank troll-takoyaki?

Kinako tastes more like peanuts than sugar.

Actually I prefer it to peanuts, it's less sweet and less oily. Kind of like sesame powder.
