That makes sense and it's why I respect opera and church music (even if I don't like them, because I'm not an old codger).

But people in these threads are talking like vocals as instruments are fine, but the lyrics themselves are bad, and I don't know what's better. Pop lyrics do their job of giving the singer something to sing, and they have meaning (and sometimes subtext) without being too pretentious or sounding like a middle school essay.

Most of it is shit and distracting anyway when you understand it.

Pretty much what others have said.

If you don't like the lyrics so much it can make a song that actually sounds really great get old pretty quick.

But if you don't understand it then it stays a good song much longer.
I'm learning Japanese though, I think since I'm not a native speaker I'll always be able to turn off that part of my brain that will interpret the lyrics so I can enjoy it as I do now.
But it would also be nice to be able to focus on the lyrics and be able to understand it if I want to.

I like to think of vocals as just another instrument. Doesn't matter if I understand the lyrics, as long as the voice sounds nice with the music.

I try that with eromanga. It doesn't always work. I still sometimes see the text, comprehend some stupid line and lose my boner while laughing. I get spanish or chinese versions when I really need to ignore text because not looking at the text bubbles never works
