None of that is malicious. When data is nonmaliciously sent from a user to a master server, (and by extension, when this process is repeated for every other used using the service,) that's not called a botnet. Using loaded words to further whatever agenda you have - corporate Firefox/Opera/IE competitor-bashing, converting people to your genuine delusion/conspiracy, or just spreading fear and ignorance for the sake of it, won't work.

Great job, though. I'm sure this image will convince a handful of confused sixty-year-olds that they're being preyed on by the man.

You know what I dislike? Recently Google has been asking for a mobile phone number to attach to my account. There is no option to ignore the number, and I have no mobile phone, so I continually get annoyed when I try to log in to my account. Also on YouTube it keeps pestering me to use my real name.

Why is Google doing this? Why can't I just have an account and not tie it to a phone number or name?

It is depending on the purpose.
>Using loaded words to further whatever agenda you have - corporate Firefox/Opera/IE competitor-bashing, converting people to your genuine delusion/conspiracy,

If it's a "genuine conspiracy" then Google is really doing this. Your grasp of of the term "conspiracy" is clearly very loose. You clearly don't understand security issues.

When it comes to security, you should always assume the worst, because it is better to be safe than sorry. Why not use a browser that doesn't do these things just to be safe?

Sometimes it really seems like this, or at the very least that Google has gotten to big for its own good. They should not be forcing anything like using real names and phone numbers on their users.

Because it's Google, though, nobody will mention anything. I fear for the people who use Google Fiber because who knows what kind of 'babysitting' Google will do on them. Because it's so exclusive and the amount of users is going to remain small (for the time being) I can see them actively monitoring sites users go to or something similarly shady.

I have several free web browsers on my laptop, but I generally do not look at web sites from my own machine, aside from a few sites operated for or by the GNU Project, FSF or me. I fetch web pages from other sites by sending mail to a program (see git://git.gnu.org/womb/hacks.git) that fetches them, much like wget, and then mails them back to me. So made by some blogger and recruited for / advertised on the tech board on 4chan. Yeah, no, don't bother. I'd trust /g/oons to make browser extensions and online poll voting bots since they did that for 4chan specifically, but there's little else I'd trust them for.

good god, I try browsing with ie and every time, even on trustworthy pages, I see tons of twitching gif ads and worse like flash ads. And my mom back at home lost the use of her computer for hours after just accidentally clicking a seemingly innocuous advert. Had a hijack behind it, I mean fuck it that's supposed to be illegal right? Fuck ads.

I really don't understand how people live without some variety of ad blocking.
Every time I see someone's computer with a billion ads all over the screen or those fucking float-in-the-middle-of-the-page flash ads or youtube ads it just pains me.

the one and only valid reason to tamper with your dns is if there's some private page you need to access that refers to itself by "somename.whatever.xyz" and which isn't actually linked to somename/whatever on the actual public pay-for-your-name dns network.

If you want all or even most ads blocked, without blocking other shit, you need to block specific image dimensions or url fragments.

>> No.10982698

Word. I've been using adblockers for so long that I forget they exist until I use someone else's computer.

The last time I saw an ad, I could not believe how ridiculously obnoxious they have gotten.
