Not at all. Parts of them are very similar, and they combine in some affects, so that both are practiced together. The practice of zen is a combined version of Taoism and Buddhism. Like Christianity, Buddhism and other religions, Taoism is broken into several schools, but the main divide is between what is called religious Taoism, and what is called philosophical Taoism. Like other touhou's, we dont see what school Miko is. Same with Byakuren. I practice philosophical Taoism though zen.

It's the rejection of holy symbols as a weakness altogether, it has nothing in particular to do with Christianity. It's faith that does it. Reimu has faith that applies to her amulets. A sufficiently devout Christian would be able to use holy water and crosses to damage Remilia and other youkai. A holy symbol alone is nothing without faith to back it up.

I actually agree with you, but I still think that regardless of whether or not the other youkai follow her teachings, Byakuren is doing what she is because she is convinced that is the just, or right thing, to do. She lived a long life, and saw many youkai suffer and she genuinely wants to make things better for them. That kind of motivation is something neither Miko or Kanako have. Kanako at length cares for her shrine's success and arguably for Suwako and Sanae's quality of life as well. As for Miko, well, she says she cares for the humans of Gensokyo, but her previous history of using religion to control and subdue the Japanese makes her statements appear hollow to me.

I respect all three of them a lot, and while Byakuren drew the short straw in SoPM I think that's only natural; she is the most radical out of them all after all. Her statements regarding the natures of Gods and Youkai most likely ring uncomfortably in both Kanako and Miko's ears; and for good reason.

Honestly, I don't care if Miko is honest or not. She's already proven she's willing to deceive an entire nation-hell, the nation SHE RULED OVER- purely so she could be selfish. The crazy part? She succeeded! Yeah, her own buddhist subjects sealed her for the deception, but at the end of the day, she woke up better than ever.
Byakuren can be honest and pure (although she's got some smudges on her record, too), and I will more than support that. But the fact that Miko is an actually /questionable/ Touhou character that may or may not have embraced her own selfishness while still doing good for Gensokyo (whether it's for the sake of goodness or otherwise) makes her so much more interesting. I'd follow her just to find out what she would do.
