Zhuge Liang is my favorite Three Kingdoms personage. He is highly overrated as a general and even during that time period wasn't the greatest in that particular field. However, he was a great man overall. Even Chen Shou had to begrudgingly admit his accomplishments.

Li Ru did very little historically. He is perhaps underrated if we are speaking of the Sanguo Yanyi Li Ru, where he was portrayed as being prescient on the level of Zhuge Liang, Jia Xu, etc. Outside of the novel, however, he was a decent crony to Dong Zhou but not amazing.

I am indeed talking about Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where he casually defenestrates an empress and only dies because Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu both think with their dicks. Lu Bu later even had his own version of Li Ru in Chen Gong.

But if the subject matter is Romance, then clearly the greatest man in the period was Mi Heng, equal to Confucius and Mencius in virtue, surpassing Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi in strategy, superior to Liu Bei in kindness, Sun Quan in fierceness and Cao Cao in administrative capacity.
